Bayer Begins Yasmin, Yaz Gallbladder Settlements
By John Curran
The first results of legal claims regarding Yaz, Yasmin and Ocella gallbladder side effects have come and Bayer Pharmaceuticals has decided to pay. The question is whether or not the initial amounts are enough to compensate women who have had to have the organ removed as well as other problems related to using the birth control pill.
The entire family of oral contraceptives — which includes Yaz, Yasmin, Ocella and Beyaz — has been the subject of thousands of claims, but most of these relate to blood clot side effects. Bayer decided to settle with those plaintiffs, with a current average payout of about $200,000 per victim. However, the company had been fighting back against lawsuits from Yasmin gallbladder disease plaintiffs.
The company’s legal team said there was not enough scientific evidence for settlements of more than $3,000 per woman who had their gallbladder removed as a result of the drug, compared to those of blood clot side effects. In total, Bayer has set aside $24 million for any claims related to Ocella gallbladder side effects.
Yasmin lawsuit attorneys note that women who have had surgeries may have medical bills that are even higher than $3,000 depending on their insurance. Bayer also does not have to pay any money unless nine in 10 women accept the settlement. However, that does not mean that plaintiffs cannot hold out for a more fair legal remedy. Further studies may strengthen the link between the birth control pills and gallbladder problems.
The good news is that regardless of the Yaz side effects, Bayer wants the problem to go away. In addition, their sales of these birth control pills are still making them more than a billion dollars per year. However, the initial settlement may not make sense for most women. If that is the case, finding an experienced Yasmin lawsuit attorney can be important in deciding whether to settle one’s claim or to pursue a different legal remedy.

It’s hilarious and interesting how BAYER finds it in their ability to claim that most of the women who suffered from gallbladder injuries were “FAT, OLD and UGLY” yet I have read in most of the attorneys filing against them their clients are nowhere near those descriptions…And how they can claim it’s pure coincidence that women who didn’t smoke, and were in overall good health all of a sudden start suffering from all kinds of crap and then end up getting their gallbladder removed a few months after using YAZ or their other bcps (products)and there are just so many women, yet it’s all a pure coincidence? Their answer to this is a miserable $3,000.00? Some of these women have waited years having problems going to work because of the bowl issues now associated with the loss of the gallbladder and this is their compensation for their suffering? Something they all have to live with for the rest of their lives? And no one, not one attorney is willing to make sure actual justice is served? Even my attorney has advised to take the damn settlement. I can’t even go on vacation with $3,000? I have medical liens, and doctor’s bills from all this…What the hell are we supposed to do? And no one willing to fight for us???? Very disappointing how these major corps taking money for those in need can just walk away from all responsibilities and leave us paying the bills….Thanks BAYER for screwing up our lives. You are awesome. I have read many saying “don’t take the pills” It’s like it would have been different if there was a warning stating “there might be a slight change in your body when you take this several things besides migraines, and excessive pimples, mood swings and problems losing weight can happen when you take these meds, including blood clots, gallbladder disease, etc” Before we took the pills then for certain in would have been each and every single woman’s responsibility for what happened to us. Instead we get told, “there can be a slight change but it’s not enough to cause any damage at all so we’re not compensating for your loss!” REALLY? How easily it is to forget that these women, myself including loss a lot more than just our gallbladders and are still losing at this miserable compensation offer. If someone is willing to stand up to the tyrant, please let me know. I have found too many medical documents proving YAZ can also affect a woman’s gallbladder yet not one attorney is willing to show this proof to anyone. How can it just be pure coincidence? How can anyone just assume that all women’s bodies will react in the exact same way and no consequence will come of such chemicals going inside someone’s bodies? How can anyone make such assumptions that no actual reaction can occur? Very difficult to swallow and accept. But again, if anyone out there is willing to put them in their place, let me know I will stand by you and I am sure many other injured women will too. Thanks.
