500 Deaths & 1,400 Hemorrhages and Strokes Linked to Pradaxa

By Scott Hardy

Pradaxa pills internal bleeding hemorrhage lawsuit attorneyMore than 500 deaths and 1,400 hemorrhages and strokes have been linked to Pradaxa use in just 14 months. Pradaxa class action lawsuits allege that Boehringer Ingelheim knew of the risk of hemorrhage and internal bleeding but did not adequately warn Pradaxa users and their prescribing doctors of the severe side effects.
Breaking down these numbers even more we find that the FDA has received more than 500 reports of deaths which may be connected to Pradaxa use in only 14 months. These numbers don’t include the hundreds of deaths expected to be added to the tally for 2012. In addition, Pradaxa was connected to 900 reports of gastrointestinal hemorrhages (internal bleeding,) more than 300 reports of rectal hemorrhages (internal bleeding) and more than 200 incidents of cerebrovascular accidents or strokes. All of these have been connected to use of Pradaxa and Pradaxa side effects. These numbers are expected to double, or possibly triple, in 2012 as more patients are taking Pradaxa than ever.
Hemorrhage and internal bleeding are alleged to be common and severe side effects of Pradaxa. These side effects are why patients are filing Pradaxa class action lawsuits and personal injury lawsuits alleging that Pradaxa has serious, and unadvertised, side effects which may kill them. In addition, we’re also seeing more Pradaxa wrongful death lawsuits. Pradaxa internal bleeding or hemorrhage lawsuits typically allege that Boehringer Ingelheim did not adequately inform patients and their prescribing doctors of the risks of uncontrollable bleeds associated with Pradaxa usage, nor did Boehringer Ingelheim warn or otherwise advise on how to intervene and stabilize a patient should a bleed occur during. Pradaxa hemorrhage lawsuits allege that the only way to control internal bleeding via medication is to flush the patient’s system of Pradaxa via dialysis which can take hours. While a patient is on dialysis they may bleed out and die or require multiple blood transfusions to survive. Doctors are looking for alternative ways to stop Pradaxa patients from bleeding out.
It is estimated that more than 1,500,000 prescriptions have been written for Pradaxa since it first came out in 2010. It’s important that Pradaxa users know the symptoms of internal bleeding or hemorrhage. Pradaxa patients may be experiencing internal bleeding if they have pink or brown urine, red or black stools, bruises that happen without a known cause and may get larger, if they are coughing up blood or blood clots and/or vomiting blood or their vomit includes particles that look like coffee grounds. If you or a family member are taking, or were taking Pradaxa or a blood thinner medication, and experienced internal bleeding or hemorrhage, you may be able to file a lawsuit to help you pay for your medical expenses, pain and suffering, and recovery. In fact, spouses of family members may also be able to file Pradaxa lawsuits seeking their own damages due to “loss of consortium” with their spouse if their spouse was hospitalized due to internal bleeding or hemorrhage while, or after, taking Pradaxa. Only a qualified Pradaxa attorney can determine if you have a case against Boehringer Ingelheim.
