Eliquis-Bleeding-ProblemsEliquis, a popular blood thinner medication, may lead to a variety of severe or even fatal Eliquis bleeding problems, according to a growing number of injured plaintiffs.

What is Eliquis?

Eliquis (generic name apixaban) is a blood thinning drug manufactured and distributed by Bristol-Meyers Squibb.

The drug is just one of a relatively new class of blood thinning medications known as Factor Xa Inhibitors.

Since their introduction to the drug market, Factor Xa Inhibitors have begun to replace traditional blood thinners—namely, the old staple drug warfarin.

However, despite the growing popularity of Factor Xa Inhibitors like Eliquis, these drugs have been linked with a number of severe and possibly fatal side effects.

Indeed, Eliquis bleeding problems have led to serious injury and death, causing injured plaintiffs or family members to file an ever-growing number of lawsuits.

Eliquis Bleeding Problems

Though for the most part Eliquis side effects are mild and go away on their own without further treatment, for some patients, Eliquis bleeding problems can be substantially more dangerous. Mild side effects include nausea, easy bruising, and minor bleeding.

In rarer cases, Eliquis bleeding problems can become extreme or even life-threatening. Internal bleeding is a common side effect that is to be expected of blood thinners. Blood thinners work to stop blood clots from forming, since blood clots are often dangerous.

However, in some situations, blood clots can actually be one of the body’s only defenses against bleeding excessively. In these cases, a person taking Eliquis or another blood thinner would be unable to form these life-saving blood clots, placing them at greater risk.

Though serious bleeding problems are to be expected of any blood thinner, most of these drugs have antidotes to counteract the drug in emergencies and allow the blood to once again clot, forming life-saving clots.

However, Eliquis does not yet have such an antidote. This means that patients suffering from serious Eliquis bleeding problems may be in greater danger than those who took another kind of anticoagulant.

Eliquis Bleeding Problems Lawsuits

A number of injured patients and their families are filing lawsuits over serious Eliquis bleeding problems, alleging that Bristol-Myers Squibb knew about these Eliquis bleeding problems and yet failed to warn the public and the medical community about these risks.

Lawsuits allege that Bristol-Myers Squibb not only failed to warn about the risks, but even actively misled the public about the safety and efficacy of Eliquis.

Though filing an Eliquis lawsuit cannot undo the damage of serious Eliquis bleeding problems, or bring a loved one back to life, it may be able to help compensate for financial expenses incurred by medical bills or lost wages.

If you or someone you know has taken Eliquis or a similar medication and has since suffered from major Eliquis bleeding problems, you may be able to file an Eliquis lawsuit.
