The medical community and patients are becomingly increasingly concerned about the purported link between Invega and a number of serious side effects, including Invega and breast pain.
Invega (also known as paliperidone) is a popular antipsychotic developed by Janssen Pharmaceuticals, a subsidiary of pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson.
Invega was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to treat a variety of disorders, including schizophrenia.
Invega is similar to Risperdal. These drugs, commonly known as atypical antipsychotics, are prescribed to both adults and adolescents.
Invega and other atypical antipyschotics work to restore the balance of certain substances in the brain.
Unfortunately, Invega may be linked with a number of serious side effects.
Invega and Breast Pain
Invega and breast pain, for instance, have been shown to have a connection.
Invega has also been connected with gynecomastia, or male breast growth. Gynecomastia is not attributable to gaining fat, and is in fact breast tissue growth very similar to the development of female breasts.
Some Invega users who have been affected by Invega and breast pain or growth have filed lawsuits against Janssen, or their families have filed on their behalf.
These Invega lawsuits claim that Janssen Pharmaceuticals failed to adequately warn both the public and the medical community about the alleged link between Invega and breast pain, as well as gynecomastia.
Other possible Invega side effects cited in lawsuits include diabetes, movement disorders, and nipple pain.
Even though Invega is prescribed for both adults and adolescents, adolescents are more likely to develop gynecomastia than adults. And for these adolescents, symptoms of gynecomastia can be embarrassing and even traumatizing, and in this way even more painful than Invega and breast pain.
Puberty is already a difficult enough time for adolescent boys; they do not need this potentially embarrassing condition on top of that.
Hundreds of boys and young men who have taken Invega have reported developing excessive breast tissue. In some cases, the symptoms are barely even noticeable. In others, however, breast tissue growth can become quite extreme.
In the some major cases, a young man may develop “D” cup breasts because of gynecomastia.
Unfortunately, this alleged side effect of Invega may not simply go away on its own anytime soon. For some, yes, all it takes to treat is simply halting intake of Invega. However, for other boys, surgery may be necessary to remove excess tissue.
Filing an Invega Lawsuit
Hundreds of families have filed gynecomastia lawsuits over Invega side effects, alleging that Janssen Pharmaceuticals failed to adequately warn about the link between Invega and breast pain, as well as gynecomastia.
While a lawsuit cannot take away the pain and suffering felt through Invega side effects, it can help to compensate for financial expenses incurred by medical bills.
If you or someone you love has developed gynecomastia after taking Invega, you may be able to file an Invega and breast pain lawsuit.
