eczema closeup, rashAvelox is a popular antibiotic commonly prescribed in the United States, however, it can come with some serious side effects, including an Avelox SJS rash.

Avelox belongs to a classification of antibiotics called fluoroquinolones.

Avelox, generically known as moxifloxacin, is the third most popular in its class. Fluoroquinolones are the first all synthetic antibiotics in the U.S.

Avelox is manufactured by the Bayer Corporation.  The FDA approved Avelox in 1999 to treat multi drug-resistant types of Streptococcus pneumoniae – bacteria that cause pneumonia, ear infections and meningitis.

Avelox is also prescribed to treat skin infections, cellulitis and intra-abdominal infections.

But, Avelox use often comes with serious and sometimes life threatening side effects including Avelox SJS rash.

What is an Avelox SJS Rash?

Stevens Johnson Syndrome (SJS) is a serious autoimmune condition. It begins with flu-like symptoms but then progresses to a rash.

The rash then develops into something quite serious.

SJS causes cell death of the skin. Brightly colored lesions develop on the skin and the mucous membranes of the body.

Eventually the epidermis separates from the dermis and sloughs off in sheets from the body.

Victims of Avelox SJS rash may also suffer from eye complications like severe conjunctivitis, corneal blisters and holes, and vision loss.

At its most serious, with the most coverage of the body, Avelox SJS rash can lead to a condition called toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN).

Both SJS and TEN should be treated as an emergency condition when they are diagnosed. Many patients are treated in the burn ward of a hospital.

Both conditions are urgent and considered life threatening.

Other side effects of Avelox include:

  • abdominal discomfort
  • diarrhea
  • nausea
  • vomiting
  • mouth sores
  • headache
  • dizziness
  • blurred vision
  • nervousness
  • anxiety
  • agitation
  • skin itching, and
  • vaginal discomfort (itch or burning sensation)

Patients are encouraged to seek medical attention immediately if they develop serious Avelox side effects such as:

  • sudden pain, snapping or popping sound, bruising, swelling, tenderness, stiffness, or loss of movement in any of your joints;
  • diarrhea that is watery or bloody;
  • seizure (convulsions);
  • severe headache, ringing in your ears, dizziness, nausea, vision problems, pain behind your eyes;
  • pale or yellowed skin, dark colored urine, fever, weakness;
  • urinating less than usual or not at all;
  • easy bruising or bleeding;
  • numbness, tingling, or unusual pain anywhere in your body;
  • the first sign of any skin rash, no matter how mild; or
  • severe skin reaction including fever, sore throat, swelling in your face or tongue, burning in your eyes or skin pain.

If you or someone you love have had an adverse effect as a result of taking Avelox including Avelox SJS rash, you may be entitled to legal compensation. A specialized lawyer can help decide if a lawsuit is right for you.
