Dilantin linked to cerebellar atrophyThe widely used anticonvulsant medication Dilantin has been linked with some serious side effects, including cerebral atrophy.

Dilantin (generic brand phenytoin) is a popular anticonvulsant medication used to treat epilepsy. Dilantin is intended to stop seizures before they get too far, which helps protect its users from the more extreme consequences of a seizure.

Specifically, Dilantin works to slow the rapid firing of neurons during a seizure, which helps control the convulsive movements a person often has during a seizure.

Dilantin is one of the most popular antiepileptic medications currently available to seizure patients.

Despite Dilantin’s obvious popularity, a growing number of Dilantin users are reporting serious and even permanent side effects experienced after using the drug.

Medical studies have linked Dilantin with cerebral atrophy symptoms. One study on Dilantin side effects was published in the Seizure European Journal of Epilepsy. According to the study, Dilantin has a significant link with cerebral atrophy symptoms.

The study suggests that patients who take Dilantin for a longer period of time and at a higher dosage are more likely to develop extreme cerebral atrophy symptoms.

While a patient who has taken the drug for a significant period of time is more likely to develop cerebral atrophy symptoms, it is still possible for a patient who has taken the drug for only a short period of time to develop cerebral atrophy.

Patients taking Dilantin at a higher dosage may also at a greater risk of developing cerebral atrophy and other serious side effects. However, cerebral atrophy and cerebral atrophy symptoms have been reported for short-term users who take lower dosages as well.

What is Cerebral Atrophy?

Cerebral atrophy may be an extreme Dilantin side effect, and its symptoms can drastically change a person’s life, making everyday tasks more complicated or even impossible.

Cerebral atrophy is a condition that targets the brain tissue of a patient. When a person develops cerebral atrophy, the brain tissue in their cerebellum begins to degenerate over time.

The tissue in this section of the brain, which is responsible for a number of the body’s basic movements such as coordination, speech and balance, loses neurons. As more neurons are lost during degeneration, a patient can begin to experience difficulties moving voluntarily.

This can be seen in unstable eye movements, tremors in the body or parts of the body, and uncontrollable bodily movements.

Dilantin Cerebral Atrophy Treatment

In some lucky cases, treating cerebral atrophy symptoms is simple. In these instances, just stopping intake of Dilantin is all a patient needs to do to alleviate cerebral atrophy symptoms.

For other patients, however, treatment for this condition can be anywhere from difficult to impossible. Some patients may not be able to be treated at all, and cerebral atrophy symptoms may become a permanent part of their lives.

Dilantin Cerebral Atrophy Lawsuits

While a Dilantin lawsuit cannot alleviate the pain and suffering of cerebral atrophy, it can help to compensate for financial expenses from medical bills or lost wages.

If you or someone you love has suffered from cerebral atrophy symptoms after using Dilantin, you may be able to file a lawsuit.

In general, phenytoin lawsuits are filed individually by each plaintiff and are not class actions.
