Consumer Reports: Avoid Actos, Side Effects At All Costs

By John Curran

Actos lawsuitActos side effects are continuing to cause problems for many patients. Many former patients are claiming that they have developed Actos bladder cancer as a result of taking the anti-diabetic drug. As generic versions of Actos (pioglitazone) now flood the market, the possibility exists that millions more diabetes sufferers could be affected by Actos bladder cancer. That number will grow, as well, as the population becomes more obese — a key cause of diabetes.

Now, Consumer Reports is trying to warn consumers of the risks of Actos bladder cancer. A recent article, available to subscribers, notes that the risks of Actos side effects are too great for consumers to try the medication. The medical experts consulted by the magazine note that there are other medication options with a smaller side effect profile. Options include metformin in generic form.

In addition to the risk of Actos bladder cancer, kidney,  heart failure and cardiopulmonary problems have been reported in significant numbers. Many Actos lawsuit lawyers are citing these Actos side effects, as well as the FDA warning that is required on both brand name and generic versions, as evidence that their clients took a defective product.

Considering the risks, the side effects of Actos could lead to problems both for Takeda Pharmaceuticals and generic makers. Actos bladder cancer attorneys expect tens of thousands of Actos bladder cancer lawsuits to be filed. In fact, Actos lawsuit multi-district litigation (MDL) is already underway, with Actos lawsuit attorneys able to fight for their own clients, but in front of a single judge. This includes more than 30 former patients from California. Takeda Pharmaceuticals is also facing Plaintiffs in Canada, who filed an Actos bladder cancer class action lawsuit in August 2012.

Considering these serious Actos side effects, FDA warning and recommendations by consumer advocates, diabetes patients may want to consider Actos, pioglitazone and its various generic forms only as a last resort. Many patients are already considering their options for remedy by contacting doctors and legal professionals about joining the Actos lawsuit MDL. Considering the initial approval was in 1999, the Actos lawsuit MDL could end up being one of the largest pharmaceutical liability cases in the U.S., with millions of patients at risk for Actos bladder cancer and thousands more considering Actos lawsuit attorneys.
