Mother Files Zoloft Birth Defect Lawsuit

By Scott Hardy

Zoloft Pill BottlesAnother woman who took Zoloft while pregnant and had a baby born with congenital birth defects has filed a lawsuit. Mamie Hampton, a resident of Florida, filed the latest lawsuit targeting Pfizer for not warning her and other women about the possibility of hurting her baby if she took Zoloft while pregnant. Mamie’s lawsuit is the latest to join more than 57 cases in the multi-district litigation (MDL) against Pfizer and there are many more which have been filed but haven’t been attached to the MDL yet. Each lawsuit in the MDL alleges that Zoloft is behind the birth defect, or multiple congenital birth defects, afflicting their children.
Zoloft birth defect plaintiff Hampton alleges that states that she was prescribed Zoloft and took it while she was pregnant to battle depression. Mamie’s child is also listed in the Zoloft lawsuit as a plaintiff as they were born with multiple congenital birth defects. The Zoloft birth defect lawsuits allege that Zoloft can cause birth defects like aorta coarctation, ventricular septal defects (VSD), hypoplastic right or left heart syndrome, spina bifida, tetralogy of fallot (TOF), Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension (PPHN), and other severe malformations of the infant’s body or organs. Mamie’s lawsuit states that Pfizer was aware of the risks of Zoloft and didn’t adequately inform patients about the possible side effects of Zoloft. Pfizer’s lack of notification of the risks of taking Zoloft while pregnant put Mamie and thousands of other pregnant mothers and their unborn children at risk. Mamie and her baby are seeking at least $75,000 in damages for the injuries allegedly caused by Zoloft.
