Zoloft Birth Defect Class Action & Lawsuit Update

By Scott Hardy

Zoloft PillsThe number of Zoloft birth defect class action and personal injury lawsuits continue to rise. In just the past two weeks more lawsuits have been filed increasing the number to at least 100 Zoloft birth defect cases. The Zoloft class action lawsuit against Pfizer has also gained some momentum as additional potential class members expressed interest in pursuing Pfizer for damages.

Pfizer is now facing more than 100 Zoloft lawsuits in different federal district courts around the country. These Zoloft birth defect lawsuits were filed by parents who had children born with severe birth defects who were exposed to the antidepressant drug while pregnant. The lawsuits allege that the Zoloft birth defects include aorta coarctation, ventricular septal defects (VSD), hypoplastic right or left heart syndrome, spina bifida, tetralogy of fallot (TOF), Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension (PPHN), and other severe malformations of the infant’s body or organs. In fact, Pfizer stated in a brief filed on March 22nd, 2012, that the number of Zoloft birth defect lawsuits alleging product liability issues has increased by more than 60% since the beginning of 2012. Pfizer is preparing to face even more lawsuits as more people start researching the possible cause of the birth defects their children were stricken with. Some of those in the legal news community expect the number of Zoloft and antidepressant birth defect injury cases to surpass 500 by the end of 2012.
