individuals hit by a semi truck sue the driver and the companyA Louisiana woman who was hit by a semi truck, causing her to suffer from serious injuries, has filed a lawsuit against the trucking company, driver, and insurance company.

The plaintiff, Johnette T., filed her lawsuit alongside her husband Eric. According to the lawsuit, Johnette was a passenger in a car driven by her friend on an interstate in Louisiana. An 18-wheeler truck allegedly operated by defendant Victor C. was on the same interstate.

Victor’s truck hit the car in front of him, the complaint says. During the collision, the couple says Victor swerved to the left, and “carelessly” crashed into the rear of the vehicle Johnette and her friend were in as well. The car, hit by a semi truck, was severely damaged and had to be towed, the lawsuit notes.

After being hit by a semi truck, Johnette says she suffered from a slew of serious injuries, including damage to her nervous system, an intervertebral annular tear and disc herniations in her lumbar spine, among others. As a result of these injuries, according to her lawsuit, Johnette says she has become permanently disabled and disfigured.

The lawsuit alleges that being hit by a semi truck was in no way due to negligence on Johnette’s part, and was caused entirely by the negligence of the semi truck’s driver, who was operating on behalf of Cargill Meat Logistics and insured by Hays Companies.

Johnette filed her lawsuit on Aug. 6, 2018, in the 19th Judicial District Court in the East Baton Rouge Parish of Louisiana.

Semi Truck Accident Litigation

Unfortunately, being hit by a semi truck is all too common. There are around half a million truck accidents in the U.S. every year, many of which lead to severe injuries or even fatalities. More than 100,000 serious truck accident injuries occur every year, and around 5,000 truck accidents prove fatal.

When you or a loved one are hit by a semi truck, it can leave you feeling helpless. But while there’s nothing that can be done to take away the pain and suffering caused by these accidents, or bring a loved one back to life, you may be able to use a semi truck accident attorney to file a lawsuit against those responsible for the accident—including the truck driver, trucking company, and insurance company. Compensation can help with medical bills, lost wages, and more.

Consulting a Semi Truck Accident Attorney

If you or a loved one were in an accident and hit by a semi truck, you may be able to file a lawsuit and pursue compensation. Consulting a semi truck accident attorney can help you ensure that you get the most out of your litigation.

While filing a lawsuit cannot take away the pain and suffering caused by being hit by a semi truck, and it can’t bring a loved one back to life, it can at least help to alleviate the financial burden incurred by medical expenses and lost wages, as well as hold those responsible accountable—and a semi truck accident attorney can help.

Johnette’s Semi Truck Lawsuit is Case No. 3:18-cv-01048-SDD-RLB, in the 19th Judicial Court for the E. Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana.
