United of Omaha Life Insurance Co. agreed to a class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims that a 2024 data breach compromised sensitive employee information.
The United of Omaha settlement benefits individuals whose personal information may have been compromised in the United of Omaha data breach between April 21 and April 23, 2024.
According to the data breach class action lawsuit, United of Omaha failed to protect sensitive employee information from a cyberattack in April 2024. The breach reportedly compromised names, Social Security numbers, financial account information, health information and other sensitive data.
United of Omaha Life Insurance Co. is a subsidiary of Mutual of Omaha that sells life insurance, annuities and other products.
United of Omaha Life Insurance has not admitted wrongdoing but agreed to pay an undisclosed sum to resolve the United of Omaha data breach class action lawsuit.
Under the terms of the United of Omaha settlement, class members can receive up to $1,500 for out-of-pocket expenses related to the data breach. This includes bank fees, communication charges, travel expenses, credit costs and up to four hours of lost time at a rate of $20 per hour.
Class members who do not wish to make a claim for reimbursement can receive a $50 alternative cash payment.
All class members are eligible for two years of free identity theft protection and credit monitoring services. These services include credit monitoring from one major credit reporting agency, identity restoration and recovery services and $1 million in identity theft insurance with no deductible.
The deadline for exclusion and objection is April 29, 2025.
The final approval hearing for the United of Omaha data breach settlement is scheduled for June 25, 2025.
In order to receive settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by May 29, 2025.
Who’s Eligible
Individuals whose personal information may have been compromised in the data incident suffered by Omaha between April 21 and April 23, 2024.
Potential Award
Up to $1,500 for out-of-pocket expenses incl. $20 per hour for lost time, or a $50 alternative payout. Two years theft protection and credit monitoring services and $1 million in identity theft insurance with no deductible.
Proof of Purchase
Documentation of losses, such as bank statements, phone bills, postage receipts, gas receipts, credit monitoring fees or identity theft insurance fees.
