Toyota agreed to a class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims that certain vehicles were equipped with a Bluetooth system that caused an echo during phone calls.
The Toyota settlement benefits consumers who own, lease or previously purchased a 2014-2019 4Runner, 2015-2018 Avalon, 2015-2018 Avalon HV, 2014-2019 Highlander, 2014-2019 Highlander HV, 2016-2018 Mirai, 2016-2019 Prius, 2017-2019 Prius Prime, 2015-2019 Prius V, 2014-2019 Sequoia, 2015-2017 Sienna, 2014-2019 Tacoma, 2014-2019 Tundra, 2015 Venza or 2018-2019 Yaris in Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, New York, Ohio, Oregon and Washington.
According to the Toyota echo lawsuit, certain vehicles had a defect in the Bluetooth hands-free phone system that caused an echo during phone calls. Plaintiffs in the case claim that Toyota failed to disclose this defect to consumers, violating state consumer protection laws.
Toyota has not admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to pay an undisclosed sum to resolve the Toyota echo class action lawsuit.
Under the terms of the Toyota settlement, class members can receive injunctive relief in the form of an outreach program. This program will educate class members on how to adjust the Bluetooth settings on their cell phones to fix the echo issue.
The outreach program will include a volume adjustment protocol website, communications sent to current owners and lessees, a volume adjustment protocol IVR phone number, social media ads and a renewed tech tip available to dealers.
The deadline for exclusion and objection is Jan. 14, 2026.
The final approval hearing for the Toyota Bluetooth echo class action settlement is scheduled for March 2, 2026.
No claim form is required to benefit from the settlement. Class members who do not exclude themselves will automatically receive settlement benefits.
Who’s Eligible
The settlement benefits individuals and entities who, as of Aug. 18, 2025, own, lease or previously purchased, owned or leased a 2014-2019 4Runner, 2015-2018 Avalon, 2015-2018 Avalon HV, 2014-2019 Highlander, 2014-2019 Highlander HV, 2016-2018 Mirai, 2016-2019 Prius, 2017-2019 Prius Prime, 2015-2019 Prius V, 2014-2019 Sequoia, 2015-2017 Sienna, 2014-2019 Tacoma, 2014-2019 Tundra, 2015 Venza or 2018-2019 Yaris vehicle in Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, New York, Ohio, Oregon and Washington.
