Nissan has agreed to a class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims that certain Nissan Murano and Maxima vehicles are equipped with a defective continuously variable transmission (CVT).

The settlement benefits consumers who purchased or leased a model year 2015-2018 Nissan Murano or a 2016-2018 Nissan Maxima.

According to the class action lawsuit, the CVT in certain Nissan Murano and Maxima vehicles is defective and can lead to poor performance or complete failure. The plaintiffs claim that Nissan knew about the defect but failed to disclose it to consumers.

Nissan is an automotive manufacturer that sells vehicles under the Nissan and Infiniti brands. The automaker has not admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to pay an undisclosed sum to resolve the CVT class action lawsuit.

Under the terms of the Nissan class action settlement, class members can receive a warranty extension, reimbursement, a vehicle voucher and other benefits.

The settlement extends the new vehicle limited warranty for the transmission assembly and automatic transmission control unit to 84 months or 84,000 miles, whichever comes first. This extension provides coverage for the transmission assembly, valve body, torque converter and other components.

Class members can receive reimbursement for prior repairs if they paid for qualifying repairs after their original warranty expired but before the new warranty extension took effect. If the repairs were performed by a Nissan dealer, class members can be fully reimbursed.

If repairs were performed by a non-Nissan facility, class members can be reimbursed up to $5,000. Class members can be reimbursed for multiple repairs.

Class members who had two or more transmission replacements or repairs during their ownership can receive a $1,500 voucher. This voucher can be used toward the purchase or lease of a new Nissan or Infiniti vehicle.

The deadline for exclusion and objection is June 3, 2025.

The final approval hearing for the Nissan class action settlement is scheduled for July 18, 2025.

To receive settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by July 3, 2025, or within 30 days of a qualifying repair.

  1. Rhoads says:

Jane – Yes, the case was “dismissed”, totally true, but only because the Settlement Agreement has gone through its Final Approval stage such that the case was “DISMISSED with PREJUDICE” which is what happens in settling class-action suits so that the claimants can’t sue the defendant (i.e, Nissan NA) for additional damages. Read the Judge’s recent “Order for Final Approval” where it states, “The Settlement Agreement submitted by the Parties is finally approved … The parties are directed to perform all obligations under the Settlement Agreement.” You are doing a disservice to the persons reading these comments with all your misinformation.

  2. Rhoads says:

Jane – “Dismissed with prejudice” means there can’t be any more lawsuits against Nissan for the same thing. That is Nissan’s requirement for them to agree to the settlement. It is part of the final approval process for any Class Action Lawsuit settlement. This will be my last post trying to explain this. It is YOU that needs to read the actual court documents.

    1. Jane says:

That’s not so. I spoke to the lawyer.s office. The entire case was dismissed. Now cash app me 100$ bucks for explaining this to you again after you call the lawyer for yourself and verify the facts.

  3. Rhoads says:

In July 2025, the Final Order and Judgment approved the Settlement which includes the dismissing all claims in the Lawsuit with prejudice to Nissan. Hence, Nissan will be paying the claims but admits no wrongdoing and is not subject to any further claims.

    1. Jane says:

Read the actual court documents and not the AI search . . It’s dismissed

  4. Kelly says:

The case was dismissed no payments will be received. This sucks.

  5. Rhoads says:

It is unlikely anyone has been paid yet as the Final Hearing occurred less than a month ago on 7/18/25 which was recorded with the court on 7/21/25. The Effective Date is 61 days later which is 9/24/25. Payments are to be made for reimbursements within 90 days of the Effective Date so between 9/24 and 12/24 most likely.

    1. Rich says:

Are they notifying anyone what our claim reward amount is (or anything)? I have a valid claim in, but I have not received any update to my claim number. Or are they just sending payments out and not notifying people? The only info I can find is what you stated. Thanks

      1. Shelby Wanamaker says:

I put my claim in as soon as I received the notification and I haven’t heard anything either. I should be getting 7100.00 for my new transmission I had to put in but crickets.
