The New York Times Co. agreed to a settlement with the New York Office of the Attorney General to resolve claims it failed to provide refunds to subscribers who canceled their digital or home delivery subscriptions.
The New York Times settlement benefits individuals with a New York billing ZIP code who were directly billed by the New York Times (not a third party) and who canceled either a digital subscription between Jan. 19, 2018, and June 30, 2022, or a home delivery subscription between Jan. 19, 2018, and Aug. 9, 2023.
The New York Times Co. is a news organization that publishes The New York Times, a daily newspaper based in New York City. The New York Times is one of the largest newspapers in the United States and has the highest circulation of any newspaper in the country.
According to the New York Attorney General’s Office, the New York Times violated state law by failing to provide refunds to subscribers who canceled their digital or home delivery subscriptions.

The New York Times has not admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to resolve the allegations under the proposed settlement.
Under the terms of the New York Times settlement, eligible subscribers can receive a one-time payment of $14 in restitution. Eligible subscribers can receive their payment via PayPal, Venmo, ACH, a virtual Mastercard or check.
The deadline for exclusion and objection is Nov. 20, 2023.
The final approval hearing for the New York Times settlement is scheduled for Dec. 12, 2023.
To receive a settlement payment, class members must submit a valid claim form by March 3, 2026.
