FCA US agreed to a class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims that certain Dodge Ram 1500 EcoDiesel trucks are equipped with defective exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) coolers that can lead to engine fires.
The Dodge settlement benefits individuals who purchased or leased a model year 2014-2019 Dodge Ram 1500 EcoDiesel truck manufactured between June 12, 2013, and Oct. 23, 2019.
According to the class action lawsuit, Dodge Ram 1500 EcoDiesel trucks have defective EGR coolers that can crack and leak coolant. This allegedly leads to combustion within the intake manifold and can cause engine fires.
FCA US is the North American branch of Stellantis, a multinational automotive manufacturing corporation. FCA US sells several brands of vehicles, including Dodge.
FCA US has not admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to pay an undisclosed sum to resolve the EGR cooler class action lawsuit.
Under the terms of the Dodge Ram 1500 EcoDiesel settlement, class members can receive a warranty extension that covers all parts and labor needed to repair a failed EGR cooler. This warranty extension lasts five years from the date of EGR cooler replacement under recall VB1.
Class members who paid out of pocket to replace a failed EGR cooler within five years of their vehicle’s recall can receive reimbursement for these costs.
The Dodge settlement also provides reimbursement for other expenses related to failed EGR coolers. The settlement allows for up to $750,000 in total reimbursement for tow truck, rental car and coolant costs. Rental car reimbursements are capped at $500 per truck, while coolant reimbursements are capped at $75 per truck.
Class members who experienced an engine fire in their vehicle due to a failed EGR cooler can receive $3,000 from the Dodge Ram 1500 class action settlement. These class members must provide documentation of the fire and proof that the fire was caused by a failed EGR cooler.
The deadline for exclusion is Feb. 8, 2026, and the deadline for objection is Jan. 9, 2026.
The final approval hearing for the Dodge Ram 1500 EcoDiesel class action lawsuit settlement is scheduled for March 17, 2026.
To receive settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by May 16, 2026.
