CoreLogic Credco agreed to a $5.695 million class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims that it violated the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) by listing consumers as deceased on credit reports when they were actually alive.
The settlement benefits individuals who were the subject of a consumer report resold by CoreLogic Credco between Jan. 1, 2021, and May 2, 2023, where the report noted that the consumer was deceased despite one or two of the nationwide consumer reporting agencies (Experian, TransUnion and Equifax) providing information that did not include that the consumer was deceased.
Plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit claim that CoreLogic Credco erroneously listed them as deceased on credit reports despite them still being reported as alive by reputable nationwide credit bureaus such as Experian, TransUnion and Equifax. According to the class action lawsuit, these inaccurate credit reports violated the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA).
CoreLogic Credco is a credit-reporting agency that resells credit reports from other entities to banks, mortgage companies and other lenders.
CoreLogic hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to a $5.695 million settlement to resolve the FCRA class action lawsuit.
Under the terms of the settlement, class members can receive an equal share of the net settlement fund. Payments are estimated to be $607 per class member. However, exact payments may be higher or lower depending on the number of participating class members and deductions made for fees and other costs.
The deadline for exclusion and objection is Jan. 5, 2024.
The final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for Feb. 26, 2024.
Some class members may be eligible to receive automatic payments from the settlement. Class members who are not eligible for automatic payments must submit a valid claim form by Jan. 5, 2024, to receive settlement benefits. More information about payment eligibility can be found on the settlement website.
