VGW Malta Ltd., owner of Chumba Casino and Luckyland Slots, has agreed to pay $11.75 million to end a class action lawsuit claiming the company violated Kentucky gambling laws by selling virtual coins in Luckyland and Chumba Casino slots games.

Class members include all Kentucky residents who spent $5 or more at Chumba Casino or Luckyland Slots within a 24-hour period between March 17, 2017, and March 17, 2022.

Plaintiff Amy Jo Armstead filed the Chumba Casino and Lucklyand Slots class action lawsuit Sept. 7, 2022. Armstead states she played Chumba Casino and Luckyland Slots games, and lost more than $7,000 doing so. In her lawsuit, she argues she and many other people were harmed because VGW Malta violated Kentucky gambling laws designed to protect individuals.

She explains VGW Malta owns and operates virtual casino games through the brands Chumba Casino and Luckyland. Allegedly, the virtual games allow players to use virtual coins to play slot games.

The plaintiff states that while first-time players are given these virtual “gold coins” for free, after the initial play, consumers must pay real money to purchase these coins. Consumers can also reportedly place wagers to win more gold coins.

While the company lures players in with its “free to play” model, the games quickly charge players, according to the plaintiff, meaning they fall under the regulations of Kentucky gambling law.

She asserts that as games of chance are illegal in Kentucky, if gambling players lose money at games of chance in the state, they are entitled to receive their lost money within a certain timeframe. In her Chumba Casino and Luckyland Slots class action lawsuit, Armstead requested that the money she lost at gambling, and the money other similarly affected consumers lost, be returned to them.

VGW Malta has not admitted wrongdoing in response to the claims surrounding the games but has agreed to a settlement to avoid the costs and risks of continued litigation.

Class members will be eligible for a proportional payment of the settlement amount, allocated based on how much money they lost from the settlement. These amounts will be determined after attorney fees and costs as well as class representative payments have been allocated.

A payment estimator is available on the settlement website.

Class members who wish to object to or exclude themselves from the VGW Malta Chumba Casino and Luckyland Slots class action lawsuit settlement must do so by Dec. 15, 2022.

A final fairness hearing is scheduled for Jan. 9, 2023.

To receive class action settlement benefits, class members must file a valid claim by March 6, 2023.

I’m in oregon I only deposited $35 however I won a ton more. I maxed out a $2 for fire and ice slingo winning the maximum prize amount aloud which was a lot only to have them immediately flag my account and ask for tons of information, id, Pic with me in it, mail proving address the works which I did they said it was a normal “security check” then the freaking deactivated my account completely refusing to give me my money. And here I was exacted cuz I maxed out my card and won the jackpot Included. We all need to file another lawsuit against them for violating us and false advertisement, theft and more

Yes and I was a problem. Gamer who was banned from there establishment a couple years ago and they knowingly let me create another account knowing I was a problem. Gamer and allowed me to ruin myself once again. It goes against ethics. When I asked for a refund they deactivated my account and left me out to hang and it’s their turn I’m owed $10,000

  2. Kelbresha Simon Harmon says:

My account be hack and I need my winnings $62,214.24 that chumba casino let someone hack my account and play my with after i went to sleep wake up my account was played and it wasnt me it was hack.

  3. Damien Miller says:

Chumba casino is saying there’s more than one account with my same details. They won’t let me cash out.

    1. Michael Bullock says:

I had 2 accounts I won $100 on 2nd account verification I completed just all documents or proof for verification I had to convert all into PDF before I got verified. Support Was Awesomely nice & asked wat account I want. They put all funds into one account closed others. Cashout/w no Problems.

  4. Geoffrey Trebec says:

To further complicate matters I have not received any additional Luckyland offers other than a customer service feedback request, that I have not yet responded to.
However beginning 10/14/2023 I began receiving Chumba emails 9 total to date (11/24/2023) with todays email announcing my account has been credited with 2,500,000 gold coins and my free SC10.00 this arrived at 1:40:51pm UTC today.
It’s ironic I cannot cash out previous winning from the account but my Chumba account seems to be working just fine to the point the app is depositing tokens in an attempt to encourage me to play.
I’m sure like before they will gladly accept my deposits UNTIL I WIN AND ATTEMPT TO WITHDRAW MY FUNDS.
Then I’m sure my account will breach some portion of their agreement.
    Please advise

I won jackpots that put my account over 50,000 and tried to cash out, but got the need verification. They had already verified who I was and bank account. I live in Alaska where online gaming is illegal. They seem to not care though because they take my money. I have Alaska ID, Alaska Bank Acct ,and Alaska address. They didn’t pay me when I tried to cash out, for months this shit went on. They took it all from me and alot more. They

The same thing happens to me. I won a major jackpot during a bonus that was for 4184.75SC and I got 2075.00SC I started inquiring over the weekend as to why I did not get the full amount and they are saying that I did not win a major even with seeing my screenshots and that I won a upgrade mini to a maximum Minor which is only for 500SC. Mind you that you cannot upgrade during a bonus. Now the monies that I had pending is gone and the site keeps glitching upon attempting to log in. They keep closing my cases saying I did not win it when they are being dishonest. However as long as I am depositing funds it is all great with them.

  6. Nancy Axelrod says:

Myself and my daughter have played Chumba and we both have had problems with them charging us 2 and 3 times per each purchase. When we write a dispute about the overcharged situation they stated that there’s nothing wrong on there end and that they didn’t see any overcharges. I recently was charged for $10 which if you played Chumba you know that the $10 purchase is for gold coins which is worth noting. Why would anyone buy gold coins? The point of gambling is to try to win money (real money) not for just fun. My daughter had to go through her bank to get all of her money back. And you know that she is now band from playing ( which is a good thing) why does this company keep charging people for coins that they don’t purchase. Please let me know if anyone else has had this problem happen to them with Chumba or even Luckyland? Also after 5 years my daughter received a call from Luckyland ( who she never played with before) stating that she owed them money. I guess this is their attempt to try and get their money back hoping that she fell for the scam. Please contact me if you have had any problems with them like I have had. Contact me at axelrod.nancydawn@gmail.com thanks

  7. Sheri Milner says:

Please add Arizona! Lost tons after winning good the first couple of weeks. Now, nothing!!! They said through customer service email just try the coins until my luck gets better!! I try that, when it starts hitting I change over to real money and nothing!!!!
