State Farm has agreed to a class action settlement to resolve claims it failed to pay full purchasing fees on total loss claims.
The State Farm settlement benefits Alabama policyholders and insureds of an applicable State Farm entity who submitted a covered first-party private passenger auto physical damage claim between Nov. 7, 2018, and Feb. 10, 2026, that resulted in a total loss claim payment from State Farm which did not include full purchasing fees.
Purchasing fees include Alabama state sales tax of 2% exclusive of any city tax, county sales tax amounts, applicable ad valorem taxes and ad valorem refund credit fees, and state, county and city license fees, tag fees and/or school fees.
Plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit claim State Farm failed to pay full purchasing fees on total loss claims. As a result, Alabama policyholders were allegedly denied the full amount they were owed.
State Farm is an insurance company that offers a variety of insurance products including auto insurance, home insurance and life insurance.
State Farm has not admitted any wrongdoing in this class action settlement but agreed to pay an undisclosed sum to resolve the class action lawsuit.
Under the terms of the State Farm settlement, class members can receive a cash payment to compensate them for the purchasing fees they were allegedly owed.
Each claimant is eligible to receive $20.50 in satisfaction of applicable purchasing fees.
The deadline for exclusion and objection is May 15, 2026.
The final approval hearing for the State Farm class action settlement is scheduled for June 15, 2026.
To receive a settlement payment, class members must submit a valid claim form by July 15, 2026.
