Akumin Operating Corp. agreed to a class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims surrounding a 2023 data breach that compromised sensitive patient information.
The Akumin settlement benefits individuals whose private information may have been compromised in a data breach on Oct. 11, 2023.
Plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit claim Akumin failed to protect their information from the data breach due to insufficient cybersecurity measures. The Akumin data breach allegedly compromised sensitive patient information such as names, addresses, birth dates, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, passport numbers, medical record numbers, health insurance information and more.
Akumin, a health care company that provides imaging services, has not admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to pay an undisclosed sum to resolve the data breach class action lawsuit.
Under the terms of the Akumin settlement, class members can receive up to $2,500 for documented losses related to the data breach. This includes unreimbursed fraud or identity theft losses, credit-related costs and other miscellaneous expenses.
Class members can also receive one year of free medical data monitoring through CyEx’s Medical Shield Complete, which includes monitoring by one bureau.
The deadline for exclusion and objection is Nov. 30, 2025.
The final approval hearing for the Akumin data breach class action lawsuit settlement is scheduled for Dec. 15, 2025.
In order to receive settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by Nov. 30, 2025.
