An $825,000 Carvin Software settlement will compensate consumers for data breach losses and lost time related to a 2023 cyberattack.

The settlement benefits individuals whose personal information may have been compromised in the Carvin Software data breach between Feb. 22, 2023 and March 9, 2023.

Plaintiffs in the data breach class action lawsuit claim that Carvin Software failed to implement reasonable cybersecurity measures which could have protected their information during a 2023 cyberattack. The data breach allegedly compromised sensitive information such as Social Security numbers and financial account data.

Carvin Software hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but has agreed to pay $825,000 to resolve the data breach class action lawsuit.

Under the Carvin Software settlement terms, class members can receive two years of free identity theft and credit monitoring services. Claimants can also receive compensation for lost time paid at a rate of $20 per hour for four hours for a maximum lost time payment of $80.

Class members who experienced documented losses related to the data breach can claim up to $8,500 in additional reimbursement for these damages. Losses covered by the benefit include credit expenses, bank fees, fraudulent charges and identity theft damages.

In addition to providing $825,000 to fund the settlement, Carvin Software will make $700,000 worth of remedial enhancements to its data security policies.

The deadline for exclusion and objection is Aug. 16, 2024.
