$8.8M MCG Health data breach class action settlement

An $8.8 million MCG Health settlement provides expense reimbursement and credit monitoring to patients whose personal information was compromised in a 2020 data breach.

The settlement benefits individuals whose personal information was compromised in a MCG Health data breach in February 2020.

The breach allegedly compromised Social Security numbers, medical information, contact data and more. According to the class action lawsuit, MCG Health could have prevented the 2020 data breach by implementing reasonable cybersecurity measures.

MCG Health is a health care software solutions company.

MCG hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to pay $8.8 million to resolve the data breach class action lawsuit.

Under the terms of the settlement, class members can receive reimbursement for data breach-related losses or an alternative cash payment.

The settlement provides each claimant with up to $1,500 in ordinary expenses and up to $10,000 for extraordinary losses, such as those resulting from fraud or identity theft. Class members without documented losses can instead claim an alternate cash payment. These payments will vary depending on the number of claims filed.

The deadline for exclusion and objection is Aug. 29, 2024.

The final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for Sept. 13, 2024.

To receive MCG Health settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by Sept. 30, 2024.
