Natera has agreed to an $8.25 million class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims that it misrepresented the reliability of its noninvasive prenatal screening tests.
The Natera settlement benefits consumers who paid out of pocket for Natera noninvasive prenatal screening tests under the names Panorama or Vasistera between Feb. 17, 2016, and Aug. 7, 2025, in Ohio; May 5, 2016, and Aug. 7, 2025, in New Jersey; Feb. 24, 2017, and Aug. 7, 2025, in Florida; April 27, 2017, and Aug. 7, 2025, in New York and Illinois; or Feb. 17, 2018, and Aug. 7, 2025, in all other states.
Natera is a genetic testing company that offers various tests, including noninvasive prenatal screening tests. These tests are designed to detect genetic disorders in fetuses.
According to the class action lawsuit against Natera resolved by this settlement, the company misrepresents the reliability of its noninvasive prenatal screening tests. Plaintiffs in the case say that, despite Natera’s marketing, these tests do not reliably test for some rare genetic disorders.
The plaintiffs argue that Natera’s false advertising violates consumer protection laws and constitutes a breach of implied warranty.
Natera has not admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to resolve these allegations with an $8.25 million class action settlement.
Under the terms of the Natera prenatal test class action settlement, class members can receive a cash payment based on the amount they paid out of pocket for Natera noninvasive prenatal screening tests.
Class members who submit a claim without proof of purchase can receive up to $30. Class members who submit a claim with proof of purchase can receive up to 10% of their documented proof of purchase if their out-of-pocket costs were greater than $300.
Exact payments will vary depending on the number of participating class members and the amount each class member paid out of pocket for Natera tests.
The deadline for exclusion and objection is March 23, 2026.
The final approval hearing for the Natera class action settlement is scheduled for April 23, 2026.
To receive settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by March 23, 2026.
