The Christ Hospital has agreed to a $7 million class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims it shared patient information with third parties such as Facebook and Google.
The Christ Hospital settlement benefits individuals who are or were patients of The Christ Hospital and used the hospital’s patient portal and/or mobile app, and/or submitted a health risk assessment, appointment request form or nurse navigator request form between Dec. 30, 2018, and Jan. 13, 2023.
The class action lawsuit this settlement resolves alleged The Christ Hospital collected patient information using tracking pixels and then shared that data with third parties such as Facebook and Google. Plaintiffs in the case say that The Christ Hospital installed the tracking tools on its patient portal, mobile application and webpages where patients submitted health risk assessments, appointment requests and nurse navigator requests.
The Christ Hospital is a network of hospitals and urgent care centers in Ohio.
The Christ Hospital hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to a $7 million class action settlement to resolve these allegations.
Under the terms of the The Christ Hospital settlement, class members can receive an equal share of the net settlement fund. Exact payment amounts will vary depending on the number of claims filed with the settlement, but class members are guaranteed to receive at least $37.50. If a sufficient number of claims are filed, payments may be reduced on a pro rata basis.
Class members can also receive a one year subscription to Privacy Shield Pro.
The Christ Hospital also agreed to injunctive relief as part of the settlement, and made a commitment not to transmit individually identifiable health information to Facebook or allow Facebook to view or access this information for a period of two years from the date of the final approval order.
The deadline for exclusion and objection is Sept. 23, 2025.
The final approval hearing for the tracking pixels settlement is scheduled for Oct. 29, 2025.
In order to receive settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by Oct. 23, 2025.
