Educative has agreed to a $625,000 class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims it violated California law by automatically renewing subscriptions without consent.
The Educative settlement benefits California residents who enrolled in an automatically renewing Educative subscription between Nov. 16, 2019, and Nov. 14, 2023, and who were charged one or more automatic renewal fees for their subscription but did not receive a full refund.
Educative is an online learning platform that offers courses on various topics, including coding, data science and software engineering. The company offers both free and paid subscriptions.
According to the class action lawsuit resolved by this settlement, Educative violated California law by automatically renewing subscriptions without first obtaining consent from customers. The plaintiff in the case says that he was charged for automatic subscription renewals without being given the disclosures required by California law.
Educative has not admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to a $625,000 class action settlement to resolve these allegations.
Under the terms of the Educative subscription class action settlement, class members can receive a cash payment based on the type of subscription they had during the class period.
Annual and quarterly subscribers are estimated to receive $23.86 each, while monthly subscribers are estimated to receive $11.93 each. Exact payment amounts will vary depending on the number of participating class members and the net settlement fund after deductions.
The deadline for exclusion and objection is Feb. 13, 2026.
The final approval hearing for the Educative class action settlement is scheduled for Oct. 5, 2026.
No claim form is required to benefit from the Educative settlement. Class members who do not exclude themselves will automatically receive settlement benefits.
