Formula 1 agreed to a $5.5 million class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims it violated federal law by sharing subscriber information without consent.

The settlement benefits consumers who had a Formula 1 account and accessed Formula 1 digital properties in the United States to watch a prerecorded video between May 1, 2022, and June 24, 2025.

According to the class action lawsuit, Formula 1 violated the federal Video Privacy Protection Act (VPPA) by sharing information about its subscribers with third parties without their consent. This information allegedly identified consumers as having watched specific videos on Formula 1’s website.

Formula 1, a racing company that hosts worldwide events, has not admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to a $5.5 million settlement to resolve the VPPA class action lawsuit.

Under the terms of the Formula 1 data privacy settlement, class members can receive an equal share of the net settlement fund.

According to the settlement website, each claimant is estimated to receive $17. However, actual payments may be lower or higher depending on the number of claims filed.

The deadline for exclusion and objection is Sept. 22, 2025.

The final approval hearing for the Formula 1 settlement is scheduled for Oct. 30, 2025.

To receive settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by Sept. 22, 2025.

Who’s Eligible

The settlement benefits individuals who had a Formula 1 account and accessed any Formula 1 digital properties in the United States and watched a prerecorded video between May 1, 2022, and June 24, 2025.
