Prudential Financial agreed to a $4.75 million class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims that it failed to prevent a February 2024 data breach that compromised sensitive consumer information.

The Prudential Financial data breach class action settlement benefits individuals whose private information was compromised in the February 2024 data breach.

The Prudential Financial data breach occurred in February 2024 and compromised sensitive information, such as names, birth dates, account numbers, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, addresses, phone numbers and email addresses.

Plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit claim that Prudential Financial failed to prevent the data breach through reasonable cybersecurity measures.

Prudential Financial is a financial services company that offers life insurance, retirement benefits, investment services and more.

Prudential Financial has not admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to a $4.75 million class action lawsuit settlement to resolve the allegations.

Under the terms of the Prudential Financial settlement, class members can receive a cash payment based on the type of claim they submit.

Class members who experienced out-of-pocket losses as a result of the Prudential Financial data breach can receive up to $5,000 for documented losses, such as credit-related expenses, ID replacement costs and charges resulting from identity theft or fraud.

Class members whose Social Security numbers or tax identification numbers were compromised in the data breach can receive an impact payment of between $200 and $599.

California class members can receive a California Consumer Privacy Act payment of between $100 and $599 if their driver’s license, passport, credit card information or health data was compromised in the data breach.

Class members who do not qualify for any of the above payments can receive a pro rata cash payment from the settlement fund. Exact payment amounts will vary depending on the number of participating class members.

The deadline for exclusion and objection is Sept. 3, 2025.

The final approval hearing for the Prudential Financial data breach settlement is scheduled for Oct. 22, 2025.

To receive settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by Oct. 3, 2025.

Documentation of out-of-pocket losses, such as receipts, is required for those claiming documented out-of-pocket losses. Those whose Social Security or tax identification numbers were exposed in the data breach do not need to provide proof of loss. California residents claiming California Consumer Privacy Act payments must provide proof of residency and at least one type of information that was exposed in the data breach, such as a driver’s license number, credit or debit card information or health information.
