$3.1M Inova Health privacy class action settlement

Inova Health agreed to pay over $3.1 million as part of a class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims it collected and shared patient information through tracking pixels on its websites.

The Inova settlement benefits individuals who visited an Inova public-facing website between April 29, 2022, and April 29, 2024, and had an Inova MyChart account whose private information could have been disclosed to third parties through Facebook, Google Pixel and other tracking technology without their authorization.

According to the Inova data breach class action lawsuit, Inova Health Care Services violated federal privacy laws by collecting and sharing patient information through tracking pixels on its websites. These pixels allegedly disclosed patient information to third parties such as Facebook and Google.

Inova Health is a health system with five hospitals and over 100 outpatient facilities in Virginia and Maryland.

Inova has not admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to a $3,147,390.04 class action settlement to resolve the privacy allegations.

Under the terms of the Inova settlement, class members can receive an equal share of the net settlement fund.

Exact payment amounts will vary depending on the number of claims filed with the settlement. No payment estimates are available at this time.

In addition to providing cash payments, Inova agreed to implement remedial measures to ensure its use of tracking pixels complies with the federal Electronic Communications Privacy Act (ECPA) and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

The deadline for exclusion and objection is Feb. 27, 2026.

The final approval hearing for the Inova data breach class action settlement is scheduled for April 16, 2026.

To receive settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by April 6, 2026.

Individuals who may have visited an Inova public-facing website at any time from April 29, 2022, through April 29, 2024, and had an Inova MyChart account and whose private information could have been disclosed from the public-facing websites to third parties through Facebook, Google Pixel and other related tracking technology without their authorization.
