DuPont agreed to a $27 million class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims it contaminated drinking water in Hoosick Falls, New York, with perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA).
The DuPont settlement benefits individuals who lived in the Village of Hoosick Falls or the Town of Hoosick for at least six months between 1996 and 2016, drank water from a municipal water system or private well where PFOA was detected and had a blood serum test that detected a PFOA level above 1.86 µg/L.
Have you been diagnosed with kidney, testicular or liver cancer after drinking tap water at your home or work? You may have unknowingly been exposed to PFAS in drinking water. See if you qualify to join a class action investigation.
The settlement also benefits individuals who owned eligible property in the Village of Hoosick Falls or the Town of Hoosick that was supplied with drinking water from either a municipal water system or a private well where PFOA was detected, provided they purchased the property before Dec. 16, 2015 and owned it as of that date, or owned the property when PFOA was discovered through a water test on or after Dec. 16, 2015.
According to a PFAS contamination class action lawsuit, DuPont contaminated drinking water in Hoosick Falls, New York, and exposed unknowing residents to dangerous levels of PFOA through drinking water. The plaintiffs in the case say the presence of PFOA in their drinking water and on their properties has negatively impacted their property values.
DuPont is a chemical company that sells a variety of products, including Teflon, a non-stick polymer made from hazardous PFAS chemicals such as PFOA.
DuPont has not admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to a $27 million class action settlement to resolve these allegations.
Under the terms of the DuPont settlement, class members can receive a cash payment based on the fair market value of their property as of December 2015.
The settlement allocates $14.57 million for property damage payments. The settlement administrator will use the fair market values of all eligible properties to calculate payments. Class members will receive a proportional share of the property damage fund based on the fair market value of their properties.
The settlement also allocates $6 million for medical monitoring. This money will be used to fund an existing medical monitoring program for class members who have previously participated in the program or for new class members. The medical monitoring program allows class members to receive blood tests, doctor’s visits and other medical expenses related to PFOA monitoring.
Class members who are eligible for both property damage payments and medical monitoring benefits will receive both types of benefits.
The deadline for exclusion and objection is Feb. 11, 2026.
The final approval hearing for the PFAS contamination settlement is scheduled for April 29, 2026.
To receive settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by Feb. 11, 2026.
