
American Addiction Centers Inc. agreed to a $2.75 million class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims it failed to adequately protect patients’ private information.
The settlement benefits individuals whose personal information was potentially compromised in a data breach involving American Addiction Centers on or about Sept. 26, 2024, and who were sent a notification letter regarding the incident.
According to the class action lawsuit, American Addiction Centers failed to implement reasonable cybersecurity safeguards, allowing cybercriminals to gain unauthorized access to sensitive patient information. This information included names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, medical record numbers, treatment information and health insurance details.
American Addiction Centers is a national provider of behavioral health and substance use disorder treatment services.
American Addiction Centers has not admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to pay $2.75 million to resolve the data breach class action lawsuit.
Under the terms of the American Addiction Centers settlement, class members may submit a claim to receive two years of credit monitoring, reimbursement for documented out-of-pocket losses and an estimated $50 pro rata cash payment. The cash payment amount may increase or decrease depending on the number of valid claims submitted.
The deadline to exclude yourself from or object to the settlement is March 6, 2026.
The final approval hearing for the American Addiction Centers settlement is scheduled for April 20, 2026.
To receive settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by March 23, 2026.
Who’s Eligible
All persons whose private information was potentially compromised in the American Addiction Centers data incident and who received an individual notification letter regarding the breach.
Potential Award
Estimated $50 pro rata cash payment, documented losses up to $5,000 and two years of credit monitoring with identity theft protection.
