According to the Coinbase class action lawsuit, Coinbase and Marden-Kane failed to adequately disclose a free method of entry into Dogecoin sweepstakes sponsored by Coinbase and administered by Marden-Kane in June 2021. The plaintiffs claim this caused them and other consumers to pay for entry into the sweepstakes unnecessarily.
Coinbase is a cryptocurrency exchange that allows users to buy, sell and trade various cryptocurrencies, including Dogecoin.
Coinbase has not admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to a $2.25 million settlement to resolve the class action lawsuit.
Under the terms of the Coinbase settlement, class members can receive a cash payment based on how much Coinbase charged them in transaction fees and spreads for their first $100 in Dogecoin transactions during the sweepstakes period.
According to the settlement website, payments will vary depending on transaction records. The average payment is estimated to be between $1 and $5, but some payments could be as high as $17.
The deadline for exclusion and objection is Oct. 1, 2025.
The final approval hearing for the Coinbase sweepstakes settlement is scheduled for Nov. 10, 2025.
No claim form is required to benefit from the settlement. Class members who do not exclude themselves will automatically receive a settlement payment.
