WebTPA has agreed to a $13.75 million class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims that it failed to prevent a 2023 data breach that compromised sensitive consumer information.
The WebTPA settlement benefits individuals, including a subclass of California residents, who received a data breach notification from WebTPA stating their information may have been compromised in a breach between April 18 and April 23, 2023.
WebTPA is a third-party health plan administrator that provides services to self-funded employer groups, hospital health plans and other organizations. WebTPA is a subsidiary of the Hartford Financial Services Group Inc.
According to a data breach class action lawsuit, WebTPA failed to implement reasonable cybersecurity measures that could have prevented a data breach in April 2023.
WebTPA has not admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to this $13.75 million class action settlement to resolve the allegations.
Under the terms of the WebTPA settlement, class members can receive either documented loss payments or flat-rate payments.
Documented loss payments are available to class members who can provide documentation of losses related to the data breach. These payments are capped at $5,000 per claimant.
Flat-rate payments are available to all class members regardless of whether they can document losses related to the data breach. These payments are estimated to be around $100 per claimant.
Members of the California subclass are eligible for additional statutory payments of $50.
All class members are eligible for two years of medical monitoring through CyEx’s Medical Shield product. This product provides medical identity monitoring, real-time alerts and up to $1 million in identity theft insurance.
The deadline for exclusion and objection is Oct. 20, 2025.
The final approval hearing for the WebTPA data breach settlement is scheduled for Nov. 19, 2025.
To receive settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by Nov. 4, 2025.
