Watson Clinic agreed to a $10 million class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims that it failed to prevent a data breach that compromised sensitive patient information.
The Watson Clinic settlement benefits individuals who received a notice from Watson Clinic informing them that their information was compromised in a data breach discovered in February 2024.
According to the class action lawsuit, Watson Clinic failed to implement reasonable cybersecurity measures that could have prevented a data breach. The Watson Clinic data breach reportedly compromised sensitive patient information such as Social Security numbers, medical data and sensitive photographs of patients which were sold on the dark web.
Watson Clinic is a medical clinic in Florida that offers a range of services including primary care, urgent care, pediatrics, cardiology and more.
Watson Clinic has not admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to a $10 million class action settlement to resolve these allegations.
Under the terms of the Watson Clinic data breach settlement, class members can receive a cash payment based on the type of sensitive information that was compromised in the data breach:
- Class members whose full face and exposed sensitive areas were published on the dark web can receive $75,000.
- Class members whose partial face and exposed sensitive areas were published on the dark web can receive $40,000.
- Class members whose exposed sensitive areas but no face were published on the dark web can receive $10,000.
- Class members whose full face and partial clothing of sensitive areas were published on the dark web can receive $10,000.
- Class members whose partial face and partial clothing of sensitive areas were published on the dark web can receive $7,500.
- Class members whose no face and partial clothing of sensitive areas were published on the dark web can receive $5,000.
- Class members whose non-sensitive areas were published on the dark web can receive $100.
All class members can receive up to $500 for ordinary out-of-pocket losses such as credit expenses, communication charges and credit monitoring costs. Class members who experienced extraordinary losses as a result of the data breach can receive up to $6,500 in compensation for these losses. This includes up to five hours of lost time compensated at a rate of $25 per hour.
If sufficient funds remain in the settlement after all other payments are allocated, class members may receive a residual cash payment of up to $50.
The deadline for exclusion and objection is Jan. 6, 2026.
