PetSafe and parent company Radio Systems Corporation have agreed to a $1.9 million class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims it failed to disclose that its electronic collars were potentially unsafe.

The PetSafe settlement benefits consumers who purchased certain PetSafe e-collars in California between Oct. 1, 2018, and Oct. 31, 2022. A full list of included products can be found in the “Who’s Eligible” section below.

According to the class action lawsuit, PetSafe failed to disclose that its electronic ‘shock’ collars were not “harmless” as advertised and could allegedly cause physical and psychological harm. The plaintiff claims he purchased a PetSafe electronic collar believing claims they were scientifically proven safe when in fact hundreds of documented cases revealed otherwise.

PetSafe is a pet containment system that claims to keep pets safe and secure in their own yards.

PetSafe hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to a $1.9 million class action lawsuit settlement to resolve these allegations.

Under the terms of the PetSafe settlement, class members can receive a cash payment based on the number and type of products they purchased.

Class members who purchased bark collar products can receive $30 each. Barrier product purchasers can receive $35 for each product. In-ground fence product purchasers can receive $90 for each product. Wireless fence product purchasers can receive $140 for each product. Payments may be reduced on a pro rata basis if the total amount claimed exceeds the available settlement fund.

Class members can submit a claim for up to three products without proof of purchase. Those who claim more than three products will need to provide proof of purchase.

The deadline for exclusion and objection is Dec. 2, 2025.

The final approval hearing for the PetSafe electronic collar settlement is scheduled for Jan. 26, 2026.

In order to receive settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by Dec. 2, 2025.
