OptumRx agreed to pay $1.86 million to resolve claims it violated the federal Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) with unsolicited phone calls.
The OptumRx settlement benefits individuals who received clinical adherence calls from OptumRx that used an artificial or prerecorded voice since April 20, 2020. These calls do not include prescription refill reminders or calls regarding COVID-19 vaccines.
OptumRx is a pharmacy care service that helps consumers manage their medications and prescriptions. The company is part of the larger Optum health services company.
According to a class action lawsuit, OptumRx violated the TCPA by placing unsolicited phone calls to consumers. Plaintiffs in the case say they never gave OptumRx their consent to contact them in this manner.
The TCPA prohibits telemarketers from contacting consumers without their express written consent. The law also requires telemarketers to provide an opt-out option for consumers who do not wish to be contacted.
OptumRx has not admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to a $1.86 million class action settlement to resolve the allegations.
Under the terms of the OptumRx TCPA violation settlement, class members can receive an equal share of the net settlement fund. Class members are estimated to receive between $72 and $135, but exact payments will vary depending on the number of claims filed with the settlement.
The deadline for exclusion and objection is Feb. 4, 2026.
The final approval hearing for the OptumRx settlement is scheduled for March 31, 2026.
To receive settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by Feb. 4, 2026.
