Consumers whose calls 1-800-PACK-RAT recorded without their consent could receive payments from a $1.6 million settlement.
The settlement benefits California residents who received one or more calls from 1-800-PACK-RAT’s customer service department between Sept. 27, 2021, and Oct. 10, 2022.
Plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit claim 1-800-PACK-RAT violated California law by recording customer calls without consent. California is a two-party consent state, meaning all parties must consent to call recording.
1-800-PACK-RAT is a moving container company that delivers, picks up and stores consumer storage containers.
1-800-PACK-RAT hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to pay more than $1.6 million to resolve the class action lawsuit.
Under the terms of the 1-800-PACK-RAT settlement, class members can receive around $100 per qualified call. Claimants who provide their tax identification number can receive payments of more than $600, while claimants who do not provide this information may be limited to $600 maximum payments.
The deadline for exclusion and objection is Aug. 7, 2024.
The final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for Oct. 4, 2024.
To receive a 1-800-PACK-RAT settlement payment, class members must submit a valid claim form by Aug. 7, 2024.
