Ingo Money has agreed to pay over $1.5 million as part of a class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims it failed to prevent a 2023 data breach that compromised sensitive consumer information.
The Ingo Money settlement benefits individuals who received a notification from Ingo Money informing them their private information may have been compromised in a data breach on or around Nov. 3, 2023.
Ingo Money is a financial technology company that offers services such as mobile check cashing, payment solutions and digital banking. Ingo Money has partnered its services with companies such as H&R Block, NetSpend and Green Dot.
The Ingo Money data breach reportedly compromised names, Social Security numbers, financial account information, driver’s license numbers and other sensitive data. Plaintiffs in the Ingo Money data breach class action lawsuit allege that Ingo Money’s failure to implement data security measures in violation of various state laws.
Ingo Money has not admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to a $1.5 million class action settlement to resolve these allegations.
Under the terms of the Ingo Money settlement, class members can receive either a payout for documented losses or a pro rata cash award. Class members who received a settlement notice in the mail may have already received a cash award estimate with their notice. In addition, all class members can receive free credit monitoring and up to $1 million in identity theft insurance.
Documented loss payments are capped at $5,000 and require documentation such as bank statements, receipts and other proof of loss.
Ingo Money also agreed to improve its business practices to better protect consumer data. These improvements will cost the company $350,000.
The deadline for exclusion and objection is April 15, 2025.
The final approval hearing for the Ingo Money data breach settlement is scheduled for June 17, 2025.
In order to receive settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by May 15, 2025.
Who’s Eligible
Individuals who received a notification from Ingo Money that their private information was potentially compromised as a result of the alleged cyberattack that occurred on or about Nov. 3, 2023.
Potential Award
Up to $5,000 for documented losses related to the data breach or an alternative pro rata cash payment. In addition, all class members can receive three years of credit monitoring and insurance services.
Proof of Purchase
Receipts or other documentation such as documented bank fees, phone and data charges, postage, gasoline for local travel, fees for credit reports, credit monitoring or other identity theft insurance products purchased in response to the data breach and other traceable expenses.
