Green Dot prepaid credit cardIn a class action lawsuit, Green Dot prepaid card consumers claim that the cards aren’t reliable and easy to use, as the company advertises.

Plaintiffs Curtis Jackson and Antoinette Chapman say that they decided to acquire Green Dot cards at least in part because they were advertised as convenient, secure, and easy to use.

However, the plaintiffs allegedly discovered that this was not the case, claiming that the company that supplies the cards, Green Dot Corporation, lost their money, transferred it to another card without telling them, or made the funds unavailable.

The Green Dot class action argues that these experiences aren’t unique to the plaintiffs, as many Green Dot users have noted similar issues.

The plaintiffs claim that they were financially injured by Green Dot Corporation’s action to make their money inaccessible, or in some cases, Green Dot’s loss of their money entirely.

According to the Green Dot prepaid card class action lawsuit, thousands of people have already made similar complaints about the cards to the company itself, so the company knew or should have known that the cards were not performing as advertised.

Jackson and Chapman say Green Dot continues to market and sell cards that are not effective, secure, or easy to use, despite their knowledge to the contrary.

The Green Dot class account lawsuit argues that the profits Green Dot Corporation gained from the sale of the cards are, as a result, unjustly earned.

The two customers aim to represent Missouri and Pennsylvania residents who purchased Green Dot cards and had their money transferred without their consent, who experienced Green Dot lose their money, or for whom Green Dot made their money unavailable.

In Jackson’s case, he claims that he purchased a refillable debit card from Green Dot in 2017, and on or around June 5, 2018, he obtained a short term loan for the amount of $1,206.20 and had the proceeds transferred to the Green Dot card.

Allegedly, the company told him that his money would be available by June 12, 2018, and he received a note from the company to that effect on the 12th. He says that he attempted to use the funds but the card did not function.

Jackson says that when he logged onto the Green Dot app on his smart phone to resolve the issue, he received a message saying that his account was blocked, and received no help from the company’s customers service.

The Green Dot prepaid card class action says that from this event, Jackson lost the money from the loan and lost access to a storage unit that he was going to pay for with the money from the loan, and in that storage unit was thousands of dollars of possessions, that he also lost access to.

Chapman claims that she loaded $2,500 onto a Green Dot card around December 2016 or January 2017, and attempted to use the card on May 19, 2017 for a $67 purchase.

Allegedly, all further transactions were denied and she was told by a customer service representative that Chapman had activated three cards, none of which had money on them.

The Green Dot class action states that Chapman was then told that her money had been found and would be returned to her, but this was not the case and the money did not become available.

Jackson and Chapman are represented by Nathan A. Duncan of Douglas Haun & Heidemann PC.

I too have dealt with theft. I say theft because they have made my funds unavailable to me. I have requested to speak to a manager or supervisor several times, but was denied even that! It was my paycheck, we had to go without food because of this. This company is a pyramid scheme and needs to be shut down completely. They can not withhold someones money like they’re doing! Something has to be done!

I purchased a card for my parents as a christmas gift. 9 days after I purchased it the card was compromised. Greendot won’t do a thing, because I didn’t register the card. They state you must register your card in case it is lost or stolen. NEITHER of these apply I still have the card. I have emailed them 4 times with all the documentation they needed. Was told they get thousands and thousands of emails a day so I would have to call them within 15 minutes of my email in order to have it attached to my account. Then was told because I didn’t register it there was nothing they could do for me. I don’t think I would even have gotten my money back even if I had registered my card. This company SUCKS!!! Stay away from them. Go on social media and tell everyone NOT to use this company.

Add me to the unfortunate victim of this unscrupulous company. Have lost $500 on this greendot.gold debit visa.card purchased at Vons.
It’s been a nightmare trying to access any of the funds which have essentially been blocked for their own profits at the expense of a trusting consumer

I feel for all of you going through this crap , its enough to give someone ptsd or want to harm themselves/someone over it. I found out to late that money could go directly on my chime card by just swiping the card at a family dollar and giving the cash to cashier. I lost $200 in a day that I really needed.

Made the mistake of using moneypak which says its “compatible” with chime according to the green dot site. Kept getting an error message that said wait 20 minutes then that changed to system issues. This company is a legal ponzi scheme that is propped up by unrecoverable/lost money.going into someones pocket.

Luckily I was able to file a claim with them , which is pretty hard to do because the server conveniently times out. Some kind of way I refreshed and it managed to go through with all my info . Received an auto-generated email about them looking into the issue and next day received another one about getting a refund check for $200 .

Unfortunately I have to wait 10 days for the check to arrive , for something that’s their fault because they lied about their service being compatible with chime. I would advise if some haven’t already , file with BBB to force the issue with this predatory ponzi scheme company. Hopefully someones sues the heck out of this company so bad that they go under for good . Along with the victims getting their money back.

  7. Jerold Giddins says:

Had my pay check direct deposited into a green dot account. They held the money and advised me that I have to provide them with front/ back of my ID, a copy of my paystub, and wait 5 days. I reluctantly did so, and after 5 business days…they still held the check. Stating that now I need to provide proof of address. I then provided three forms of proof of address and they said the mail was too old. I never got my check, and was hung up on each time I called to inquire. I have a 2 month old son that I can’t support and no way to work while this was going on smh. I WANT IN ON ANY CLASS ACTION SUIT

Green dot keeps giving us the run around! We’ve sent in the proper paper work they’ve asked for several times, they wont let us have our tax return! This is ridiculous! I pray to God they give us our money soon.

  9. Rafael Martinez says:

I have had my pay check directly deposited to my account for 3 weeks. Green dot has stated for the last 3 weeks that they are sending a replacement card and never do. There is over 4,000 on my card. The customer service team is in the Philippines and they do not care. I can’t even pay my rent. How can I join the class action suit? Need help.

  10. Kimberly Tate says:

I’ve experienced similar issues with Green Dot. How can I become apart of the Class Action?
