Metronet pricing class action lawsuit overview:

  • Who: Plaintiffs Jyoti Gautam Murray and Allen Perry filed a class action lawsuit against Metro Fibernet LLC.
  • Why: Murray and Perry claim Metronet artificially inflates the true cost of its broadband internet service by tacking on a service fee that is not included in the advertised price.
  • Where: The Metronet class action lawsuit was filed in Indiana federal court.

A new class action lawsuit alleges that Metronet uses fictitious low-price advertisements to bait-and switch consumers into enrolling in its broadband internet service.

Plaintiff’s Jyoti Gautam Murray and Allen Perry’s class action lawsuit claims Metronet artificially inflates the true cost of its internet service by automatically and covertly adding a “Technology Services Fee” (TSF).

“Rather than simply adding the mandatory TSF to the advertised price of the internet service itself, Metronet secretly tacks on the TSF as line item separate from the basic contract price of the internet service,” the Metronet class action says.

Murray and Perry want to represent a nationwide class of consumers who held an account for an Internet Service with Metronet and were assessed a TSF.

Class action: Metronet fails to adequately disclose service fee

Murray and Perry argue Metronet fails to adequately disclose the TSF in its advertisements, and that its customers do not discover the fee until either after signing up or when they receive their bill.

“By unfairly obscuring the true cost of its internet service, Metronet deceives consumers and gains an unfair upper hand on competitors that fairly disclose their true service costs,” the Metronet class action says.

Murray and Perry claim Metronet is guilty of unjust enrichment and violating the Indiana Deceptive Consumer Sales Act, Kentucky Consumer Protection Act, Minnesota Prevention of Consumer Fraud Act and Minnesota Deceptive Trade Practices Act.

The plaintiffs demand a jury trial and request declaratory and injunctive relief and an award of compensatory and punitive damages for themselves and all class members.

Last month, the 7th Circuit reversed a district court’s decision to throw out a similar class action lawsuit filed against Walmart over claims it used false and misleading shelf pricing.

The plaintiffs are represented by Tyler B. Ewigleben and Christopher D. Jennings of Jennings PLLC and Jeffrey Kaliel and Sophia Gold of KalielGold PLLC.

The Metronet pricing class action lawsuit is Murray, et al. v. Metro Fibernet LLC, Case No. 3:24-cv-00131, in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana.

12.95 a month fee here so service a router i don’t even use since i just bought and maintain my own. I’m an pretty tech savy and will probably literally never need this “service”.

  2. Kristen Clark says:

Compared service plans. Metro net was the way to go in terms of pricing and speed. However no mention of tech assure until I received my first bill. Tried to call with no luck to speak directly with someone regarding this charge. Researched and now I find out that it is a mandatory fee of $12.95/month. This absolutely should have been included in original estimate and provided upon account set up. Completely misleading.

  3. Denise R says:

Mine is pretty much the same story. Signed up for $60 program and pay $120.

  4. Kathryn C MacDonald says:

I have been overcharged by metronet for several months. The tech assure fee and they are charging 64.95 for internet service. The bill also has a $89.95 fee with a $35 discount. Why are there 2 charges for service. With the $10 late fee and $35 reconnect fee they are really taking advantage of people. When you call them you are on hold for in excess of 30 minutes, so it is very hard to resolve problems.

  5. Jill Lund says:

I signed up with MetroNet at the end of 2021, with the first bill paid in December 2021. Every bill has had this Tech Assure fee starting at $9.95 and now it’s up to $12.95. I’m a single person trying to make ends meet in a world that it’s hard to do that. I would love to join the class action again MetroNet.

I was billed for fee in a mid July @025 bill. I am in a new install area. I door to door sales man from Metronet he would give me a one month free trial period, no installation cost, free router and $45.95 total cost for 12 months. I asked for a hard copy of the ipad signed document and hard copy of plan, I have not received as of this date. I was installed on or about 20 June 2025, the installer damaged my window screen. I called and reported damage. Again I asked for copies of document and again they agreed, I have made a number of request about my screen and documents, each time they replied that someone would contact me in 24-48 hours, never been contacted. Called and cancel on 2 July 2025, made appoint in which they said that the sreen would be replaced on 14 July 2025 and they would remove there equipment and repair installation damage, no screen. I refused entry until screen was replaced. Metronet billed me for the fee and $49.95. I checked with BBB and Metronet has had 351 complaints in the last 2 years with only 111 settled, what a record. I think I submit a complaint to BBB, and file with small claims court.

I’ve been billed $12.95 monthly for tech services

I’ve paid a lot of money for this service fee that isn’t included in the advertised price. One that I’ll probably never use. I’d love to join the class action against MetroNet. I filed a complaint w/a government agency & was told that there was nothing I could do because it was listed on the bill. I’m tired of paying all this money for nothing. In my area I don’t have many choices. If I did I would’ve switched a long time ago. I had the same equipment since going with them over 5 years ago. When the government program EBB/ACP my discount kept getting transferred elsewhere (QLink) without my permission. I had my phone with QLink.
