Room service on bedGetARoom.com has been hit with a class action lawsuit from customers who claim that the third-party hotel booking company engages in deceptive hotel booking methods and charges customers massive fees.

Plaintiffs Christian and Jonna Sander state that Consumer Club Inc. d/b/a GetARoom.com misleads consumers into thinking they are booking a room with the hotel itself and don’t disclose that they are a third-party vendor.

Sander says she made a reservation for a stay at the Scandic Patria hotel, thinking that she was on the hotel website. She paid $141.14 for the stay, which was the advertised rate.

When she received an email confirmation, the plaintiff learned that the reservation was booked through GetARoom.com and not the hotel itself.

“Upon information and belief, Plaintiffs believe that Defendant created a website to mimic or redirect them from the official website of the Scandic Patria in order to falsely induce Plaintiffs into reserving through Defendant instead of directly through the hotel,” the Get A Room class action lawsuit states.

In addition to fraudulently inducing the plaintiffs into booking a hotel reservation through its website, GetARoom.com also charged the plaintiffs a $100.76 in “Tax Recovery Charges & Service Fees,” which was not disclosed when the plaintiff was making the reservation.

The defendant is a middleman and takes reservations for hotel rooms from consumers in lieu of the customer booking a room directly with a hotel, claims the plaintiffs.

The plaintiffs say when they contacted the defendant via telephone, Get A Room representatives identify themselves as the “reservations department.” In addition, when asked by customers if the number they dialed is the hotel, the representatives affirm that this is true, according to the plaintiffs.

Only after customers receive a confirmation of the reservation do the plaintiffs find out they have booked a room through GetARoom.com and not directly through the hotel, the plaintiffs allege.

The Get A Room class action claims that the defendants charge more for their rooms than what is originally quoted prior to booking.

Allegedly, when consumers try to cancel their reservation because they are paying more than what is quoted, they are told there is a “no cancellation policy” so the reservation cannot be canceled.

The plaintiff claims that Get A Room representatives do not tell consumers about the no cancellation policy while on the phone. In addition, when consumers are booking a room online, they have to agree to the cancellation policy, but nowhere does it state that the cancellation policy is a no cancellation policy, according to the GetARoom.com class action lawsuit.

Moreover, the plaintiffs state that if they contact the hotel to cancel their reservation, they are informed that if they booked their room directly with the hotel itself, they would have been able to cancel the reservation.

The GetARoom class action claims that there have been thousands of complaints about Consumer Club to the Better Business Bureau regarding their actions, but nothing has been done to fix the problems that the plaintiffs have encountered.

“Plaintiffs suffered an ascertainable loss as a result of Defendant’s omissions and/or misrepresentations associated with the cancellation policy and its purported ‘service’ fees,” the GetARoom.com class action lawsuit states.

We thought we were booking directly with the hotel. We booked 3 rooms and were charged 60% tax and recovery fee. Upon receipt of the confirmation, we called and thought we were speaking with the hotel and were told that there is a $75.00 per room deposit to go against any amenities that were used and we would be refunded the $75.00. Total Scam. We are contesting the fees on our American Express.

I am having an ongoing dispute with get a room. The heading on the web site says Hampton Inn
Underneath is the hotel address in Key Largo and underneath that is 800 number which you think is Hampton Inn but is get a room( they do not identify themselves as get a room. I have an on going email correspondence . They reversed the charge for one of two days. I am still disputing the second day. This is fraudulent and a scam. Credit card companies should not do business with scam artists and frauds. Bad business…

  3. Gabrielle Holden says:

I thought I was booking from the hotel directly. They hid the service fee cost. They hid the cancelation policy and when I called customer service told me there was nothing they could do. They ripped me off for over 300 dollars.

I thought I was booking directly to holiday inn express at seaside Oregon. I was mislead to getaroom.com. They quoted me $974 but charged my credit card for $1286.89. I immediately cancelled and rebooked a room for an agreed amount of $1071.51. They still charged my credit card for two charges one for $1286.89 that I did not approve and one I did approve for $1071.51. This was on September 1st 2021. I disputed the charges of $1286.89 with my credit card company and getaroom.com provided false documents trying to say that I made two separate reservations. They are a fraudulent company. I have been fighting these charges since September 1st and I have more than enough evidence to prove that they are a scam/fraud company. Please help me!

They need to be sued and stopped from scamming us. I live paycheck

Was your credit card company willing to help you in any way?

I messed up and called a number from the Hotels website. Turn out it is this slimy group. They charged $50.00 on a $114.00 room. They kept on saying “This will be billed in American Dollars” several times during the conversation. When I asked why they were charging so much I was told, it must be local fees, by the representative. Not sure what country she was in, but did sound foreign with a very heavy accent.

  6. Linda C Kittelson says:

I had reservations for a room this Christmas. Because of Covid and a compromised immune system I tried to cancel and was told I couldn’t. I had never heard of this company. I thought I was booking with the hotel. I spoke to nasty man who refused to let me talk to a supervisor at the company. The hotel manager was very frustrated. Hopefully my credit card company can settle this. Why is this company allowed to do this. My total was $550.

    1. Rikelle Stewart says:

Hopefully you don’t have Citicard, because I called them right away and they told me to just dispute the charges, no big deal. So I did, afterwards they’ve sent me several emails saying “sorry, nothing we can do, you owe the money” “our investigation team did all they could”
      Bullshit!

  7. Brian Kasmarcik says:

Same deceptive practices, I went the hotels website, or thought was the hotels website and wanted to book a room block. I wanted to do this over the phone to make sure it was handled correctly.
First was the woman was hard to understand, second I had thought I was indirect contact with the hotel itself.
I wanted to book 11 rooms for a team room block, again the woman was very confusing and hard to understand, I have never booked a room block and was not sure how it was handled. I had to put all 11 rooms in my credit to hold. huge costly mistake, after finalizing all rooms, i sent messages to the parents to call the hotel and secure the rooms. After having 2/3 parents tell me that there was no room block or any info list for the room block i had called the hotel number, this time the actual front desk. After talking with them i realized i booked thru a 3/4/5??? party and not with the hotel directly.
The hotel was $20-30 per room per night cheaper before the additional charges not listed initially.
I booked these rooms on 10/30/21 after realizing what happened I called the same number that i originally booked thru and asked another woman to cancel my reservations. I had until 11/11/21 to cancel so I was lucky right? NO. After I thought that everything was canceled I received a credit card statement from discover, I called them and gave them by cancellation numbers which was all they asked for and they would investigate. Again I thought it would be handled and refunded. NOPE they sent a copy of cancellation policy which states nothing different than what i received but still not refunded. Now i have to fax copies of all communications with hopes that i get my $3500 plus back. I Don’t believe that will happen, I have called the hotel to find out if the rooms were canceled to find out that only 3 out of 11 were canceled. And to also find out I booked thru a company called “cci*hotel Res”. which then booked thru getaroom.com and priceline.com neither of the two companies I called or have ever dealt with. This company booked me thru multiple reservations and only canceled 2 of them when i called back to cancel. I’m sure this was intentional deceptive practice. Please bring back this class action suit or start a new one and add me. the company is listed on my credit card statement as being in Texas. lets bring this suit to Texas.

    1. Rikelle Stewart says:

Please! They need to be sued! I have been dealing with this for 4 months so far.

      1. Jenise says:

Are they being sued? I would like to be a part of a class action against them. Same storty….out $1040.00.

  8. Amy Shumway says:

Oh my gosh…I thought I was going crazy! The exact same thing happened to me! I thought I was on the hotel website, booked 2 nights and when I went to cancel the 2nd day stay 2 days before they said I couldn’t and that I had already paid in advance. I told them no I didn’t. That the credit card I gave them was to hold the room. No managers were available, of course. I called back got another person and they said once I canceled the room to call them back and they would call the hotel to make sure the room was canceled and they would refund me. We’ll NO SUCH LUCK!!! The hotel doesn’t charge for cancelations. I paid well over $300 ($78 was just in booking fees?!). I am flabbergasted and need a refund! The hotel said I would’ve only paid $88 for one night stay. What a ripoff and a complete scam!

    1. Rikelle Stewart says:

They need to be sued! I’m not done fighting them! They’re a fraudulent business!

  9. John Bunce says:

I made a reservation thru Get a Room. I thought I was booking thru the Best Western Website. I received no email confirmation for my one night stay. When I got to the hotel they said my reservation was for 8 nights! The Get a Room crooks have not credited me yet even after Best Western agreed with me. So I put a stop payment on my Visa credit card. What scammers.

  10. Bob Smith says:

Suit dismissed voluntarily in California- the attorney didn’t have Pro Hac Vice standing in California.
This company also changes its deceptive website now its Guest Reservations.com d/b/a GetARoom.com . The suit should continue we need to find attorneys willing to take this on and stop them.
