Room service on bedGetARoom.com has been hit with a class action lawsuit from customers who claim that the third-party hotel booking company engages in deceptive hotel booking methods and charges customers massive fees.

Plaintiffs Christian and Jonna Sander state that Consumer Club Inc. d/b/a GetARoom.com misleads consumers into thinking they are booking a room with the hotel itself and don’t disclose that they are a third-party vendor.

Sander says she made a reservation for a stay at the Scandic Patria hotel, thinking that she was on the hotel website. She paid $141.14 for the stay, which was the advertised rate.

When she received an email confirmation, the plaintiff learned that the reservation was booked through GetARoom.com and not the hotel itself.

“Upon information and belief, Plaintiffs believe that Defendant created a website to mimic or redirect them from the official website of the Scandic Patria in order to falsely induce Plaintiffs into reserving through Defendant instead of directly through the hotel,” the Get A Room class action lawsuit states.

In addition to fraudulently inducing the plaintiffs into booking a hotel reservation through its website, GetARoom.com also charged the plaintiffs a $100.76 in “Tax Recovery Charges & Service Fees,” which was not disclosed when the plaintiff was making the reservation.

The defendant is a middleman and takes reservations for hotel rooms from consumers in lieu of the customer booking a room directly with a hotel, claims the plaintiffs.

The plaintiffs say when they contacted the defendant via telephone, Get A Room representatives identify themselves as the “reservations department.” In addition, when asked by customers if the number they dialed is the hotel, the representatives affirm that this is true, according to the plaintiffs.

Only after customers receive a confirmation of the reservation do the plaintiffs find out they have booked a room through GetARoom.com and not directly through the hotel, the plaintiffs allege.

The Get A Room class action claims that the defendants charge more for their rooms than what is originally quoted prior to booking.

Allegedly, when consumers try to cancel their reservation because they are paying more than what is quoted, they are told there is a “no cancellation policy” so the reservation cannot be canceled.

The plaintiff claims that Get A Room representatives do not tell consumers about the no cancellation policy while on the phone. In addition, when consumers are booking a room online, they have to agree to the cancellation policy, but nowhere does it state that the cancellation policy is a no cancellation policy, according to the GetARoom.com class action lawsuit.

Moreover, the plaintiffs state that if they contact the hotel to cancel their reservation, they are informed that if they booked their room directly with the hotel itself, they would have been able to cancel the reservation.

The GetARoom class action claims that there have been thousands of complaints about Consumer Club to the Better Business Bureau regarding their actions, but nothing has been done to fix the problems that the plaintiffs have encountered.

“Plaintiffs suffered an ascertainable loss as a result of Defendant’s omissions and/or misrepresentations associated with the cancellation policy and its purported ‘service’ fees,” the GetARoom.com class action lawsuit states.

Exactly the same thing happened to me. They make it look like you are booking directly with the hotel and when you receive your confirmation it shows they charged $108 of fees on a $186 hotel room. I realized that I had been scammed and cancelled immediately just to find out they set the cancellation deadline prior to the booking time and date and therefore charged me $208 for doing so.. I called customer service and the only line the person on the line could repeat was “it is beyond their cancellation policy”. I’ve seen some deceptive website out there but this seems illegal. This business practice needs to be exposed.

I booked a 3-night stay (8/6 – 8/9) at Holiday Inn Express in Northeast Wichita. I thought I was booking directly through the hotel; however, I later found out it was getaroom.com. I had called the hotel on 8/5 to cancel my first night stay on 8/6 and the hotel representative provided me with a cancellation confirmation number. I checked in on 8/7 and upon checkout on 8/9 I learned I was charged for 3 nights through getaroom.com. I have tried to get a refund for the one night stay and am getting the run around. The fees they charged are exorbitant and I only want my one night stay refunded. I am sure I will never see the refund I deserve and would be interested in being a part of the class action lawsuit.

Company was pretending to be Ramada Hotel in Honolulu, HI and was taking reservations. When I was trying to make changes to my reservation later on, they were not able to make changes because, surprise, surprise, they are NOT Ramada Hotel, so I tried cancelling the reservation and they are not issuing refunds despite the fact that they have misrepresented themselves as the Ramada Hotel. I have contacted attorneys general and the BBB for a resolution but they don’t want to issue refunds at this time.

This complaint is in reference to reservations I made through Agoda which is connected to GetARoom and also due to a recent stay at the Krystal Cancun in Mexico 7/15-7/18 where my husband and I were fed on by bed bugs for 3 nights which required 2 emergency room visits and additional follow up from my primary because I was still having symptoms and I have Scars all over my body from the bed bugs in addition to having missed our flight because the original airline did not want us to fly Because they did wanted our luggage wrapped in plastic before boarding, due to that, we end up missing the flight, so we had to pay additional fees to get a flight home and then go to the emergency room as soon as we arrive. as far as Agoda, I have been trying desperately to get a refund back from A reservation that was canceled back in November of 2021 at two hotels that I never stayed in. the cancelations were done several days prior to arrival which I was supposed to get my refund back and they never did .they continued to charge me as if I actually stay in the room and I want my money back. I want to be compensated from Get A Room which is affiliated with both the Krystal Cancun and Agoda . I am on FB website where I have seen Agoda take money from hundreds of innocent people and I am a veteran, I am on disability and I can’t not Afford to have my money taken by deceitful people . I have several videos ,pictures and tons of documentation that supports my claim. I will submit everything that you would need to assist me in getting compensated for all the trouble and money that I have lost.

    Hoping for a miracle

Total assholes. Called the same day I made the reservation and was told I would receive A refund in 3 business days. Eventually got a letter stating they have a no refund policy. They charged 261.95 for a 179.00 room and I received nothing for a room I never even saw.

  8. Ann Janowski says:

Getaroom.com is aweful. They keep telling me they refunded me $553 and then hang up

Same thing happened to me I thought I was booking a one night stay at Our Guest Inn and Suites website but was actually booking on Getaroom.
Tax Recovery Charge and Service Fees almost as much as the room.
after I booked and seen the fees cancelled within 10 minutes. When I called them while standing in Hotel lobby Getaroom stated booking.com took the reservation for them and that they needed confirmation that it was ok from the Hotel to cancel. Hotel sent email stating it was ok to cancel with no charges (Hotel had no idea what the tax recovery fee was)
Have been calling Getaroom daily about my refund but all I get is the runaround.
      Costs & Fees
      Subtotal US$329.00 (Room Charge)
Tax Recovery Charges & Service Fees US$159.37
      Amount Paid US$488.37
This payment will be processed in the United States and will appear on your statement as “cci*Hotel Res”.
What a scam I was sure I was on Hotel website what a bait and switch

I tried to make a reservation for 3 rooms. She was doing them 1 room at a time for some strange reason. She misrepresented herself as a Hilton representative, I told her I was a Hilton honor member. I asked why it was more than a third party booking and she said because the hotel would later hit me with fees. She asked me for my credit card multiple times, saying it wasn’t working. I said I don’t want to finish the booking and she said if I want to cancel I would have had to cancel the day before! I booked on the 10th but my cancelation date was the 9th!! I tried multiple times to call back but call kept getting “disconnected “. Hilton said I had until midnight! I filed a dispute with my card. I sent an email prior to midnight and I should be on the recording canceling during the reservation call. I didn’t want it during that call but she had 1 room. But I guess that’s why she was doing 1 at a time.
