Room service on bedGetARoom.com has been hit with a class action lawsuit from customers who claim that the third-party hotel booking company engages in deceptive hotel booking methods and charges customers massive fees.

Plaintiffs Christian and Jonna Sander state that Consumer Club Inc. d/b/a GetARoom.com misleads consumers into thinking they are booking a room with the hotel itself and don’t disclose that they are a third-party vendor.

Sander says she made a reservation for a stay at the Scandic Patria hotel, thinking that she was on the hotel website. She paid $141.14 for the stay, which was the advertised rate.

When she received an email confirmation, the plaintiff learned that the reservation was booked through GetARoom.com and not the hotel itself.

“Upon information and belief, Plaintiffs believe that Defendant created a website to mimic or redirect them from the official website of the Scandic Patria in order to falsely induce Plaintiffs into reserving through Defendant instead of directly through the hotel,” the Get A Room class action lawsuit states.

In addition to fraudulently inducing the plaintiffs into booking a hotel reservation through its website, GetARoom.com also charged the plaintiffs a $100.76 in “Tax Recovery Charges & Service Fees,” which was not disclosed when the plaintiff was making the reservation.

The defendant is a middleman and takes reservations for hotel rooms from consumers in lieu of the customer booking a room directly with a hotel, claims the plaintiffs.

The plaintiffs say when they contacted the defendant via telephone, Get A Room representatives identify themselves as the “reservations department.” In addition, when asked by customers if the number they dialed is the hotel, the representatives affirm that this is true, according to the plaintiffs.

Only after customers receive a confirmation of the reservation do the plaintiffs find out they have booked a room through GetARoom.com and not directly through the hotel, the plaintiffs allege.

The Get A Room class action claims that the defendants charge more for their rooms than what is originally quoted prior to booking.

Allegedly, when consumers try to cancel their reservation because they are paying more than what is quoted, they are told there is a “no cancellation policy” so the reservation cannot be canceled.

The plaintiff claims that Get A Room representatives do not tell consumers about the no cancellation policy while on the phone. In addition, when consumers are booking a room online, they have to agree to the cancellation policy, but nowhere does it state that the cancellation policy is a no cancellation policy, according to the GetARoom.com class action lawsuit.

Moreover, the plaintiffs state that if they contact the hotel to cancel their reservation, they are informed that if they booked their room directly with the hotel itself, they would have been able to cancel the reservation.

The GetARoom class action claims that there have been thousands of complaints about Consumer Club to the Better Business Bureau regarding their actions, but nothing has been done to fix the problems that the plaintiffs have encountered.

“Plaintiffs suffered an ascertainable loss as a result of Defendant’s omissions and/or misrepresentations associated with the cancellation policy and its purported ‘service’ fees,” the GetARoom.com class action lawsuit states.

Count us in! We were charged approximately $1000 more than what was advertised. It wasn’t until I pressed buy that I saw the new and elevated price, the no cancelations, AND that I’d purchased through a third party. This purchase was made on 02/01/22 for a stay at the Hampton Inn in Bozeman, MT in July 2022.

Please note the following is in regards to a disputed charge with
    getaroom.com for $2027.36, on June 9, 2022.
I booked 2 (two) rooms, for 3 (three) nights at Distrikt Hotel Pittsburgh, PA.
July 8-11, 2022, that should have totalled $738.
I was deceived by getaroom.com because I thought I was booking directly through the actual Hilton Distrikt website, but it was actually getaroom pretending to be Hilton Distrikt Hotel. The rooms I booked were advertised as $123 per night, per room.
When I booked the rooms I had no idea that it was not Hilton Distrikt website. They designed the websites to look the same and nowhere does it say getaroom.com
    (see attached)
The email confirmation I received was for $2027.26, close to 3 times the price indicated on the advertised. I immediately called the hotel directly and that was when I learned it was diverted to booked through a third party. Hilton could not cancel the reservation and I need to contact Agoda. I called a Agoda and that was when I was told to contact getaroom.com
    I was duped.
I called getaroom.com, 1800-293-2602 and was prompted by an automated customer service line. I could chose to cancel the reservation, which I did. After they cancelled the reservation I was prompted that I could not get a refund.! Right now they have cancelled my reservation, but I will still be charged $2027.36.
Even the phone line is deceptive.

I was also scammed by getaroom.com. How do I join the lawsuit?

  7. Dawn Lutter says:

I have a photo of the screen saying rooms could be cancelled before 6:00 pm which I did. They still charged me for the room and say policy is no cancellation.

  8. Thomas Gill says:

I originally booked a room not realizing it was a “third party” (ok shame on me for that). About an hour later I found the same type of room at the same hotel for about $250.00 cheaper. I looked at my original confirmation and then noticed it was Get a Room. I called them and stated I found the same room for a better price. At that point they said they would match the better price and the person on the phone line places a new reservation for the new lower cost price. Then she tells me she is going to forward me to the “reservation cancellation department” to cancel the original reservation. I was subsequently put on hold and was waiting for a half hour or so and then the call disconnected. I then called back and was told that they can not cancel the transaction because of the cancellation policy which said it was non-refundable… OK, THEN WHY DID THEY DOUBLE BOOK ME IN THE FIRST PLACE! Now I am on the hook for both reservations. I wanted a supervisor to call me back so I can explain, they never called after multiple conversations pleading with them on the phone. I also lost the first round of the dispute through my credit card company.

  9. Dawn Lutter says:

I too was mislead by this company. Please help right this consumer wrong.

  10. Karen Kelly says:

Deceptively believed I was booked directly through the hotel website. Only later realized the reservation was “non-refundable.” Losing about 1,000$. Had to cancel due to unforeseen circumstances out of our hands. Horrible company.
