Room service on bedGetARoom.com has been hit with a class action lawsuit from customers who claim that the third-party hotel booking company engages in deceptive hotel booking methods and charges customers massive fees.

Plaintiffs Christian and Jonna Sander state that Consumer Club Inc. d/b/a GetARoom.com misleads consumers into thinking they are booking a room with the hotel itself and don’t disclose that they are a third-party vendor.

Sander says she made a reservation for a stay at the Scandic Patria hotel, thinking that she was on the hotel website. She paid $141.14 for the stay, which was the advertised rate.

When she received an email confirmation, the plaintiff learned that the reservation was booked through GetARoom.com and not the hotel itself.

“Upon information and belief, Plaintiffs believe that Defendant created a website to mimic or redirect them from the official website of the Scandic Patria in order to falsely induce Plaintiffs into reserving through Defendant instead of directly through the hotel,” the Get A Room class action lawsuit states.

In addition to fraudulently inducing the plaintiffs into booking a hotel reservation through its website, GetARoom.com also charged the plaintiffs a $100.76 in “Tax Recovery Charges & Service Fees,” which was not disclosed when the plaintiff was making the reservation.

The defendant is a middleman and takes reservations for hotel rooms from consumers in lieu of the customer booking a room directly with a hotel, claims the plaintiffs.

The plaintiffs say when they contacted the defendant via telephone, Get A Room representatives identify themselves as the “reservations department.” In addition, when asked by customers if the number they dialed is the hotel, the representatives affirm that this is true, according to the plaintiffs.

Only after customers receive a confirmation of the reservation do the plaintiffs find out they have booked a room through GetARoom.com and not directly through the hotel, the plaintiffs allege.

The Get A Room class action claims that the defendants charge more for their rooms than what is originally quoted prior to booking.

Allegedly, when consumers try to cancel their reservation because they are paying more than what is quoted, they are told there is a “no cancellation policy” so the reservation cannot be canceled.

The plaintiff claims that Get A Room representatives do not tell consumers about the no cancellation policy while on the phone. In addition, when consumers are booking a room online, they have to agree to the cancellation policy, but nowhere does it state that the cancellation policy is a no cancellation policy, according to the GetARoom.com class action lawsuit.

Moreover, the plaintiffs state that if they contact the hotel to cancel their reservation, they are informed that if they booked their room directly with the hotel itself, they would have been able to cancel the reservation.

The GetARoom class action claims that there have been thousands of complaints about Consumer Club to the Better Business Bureau regarding their actions, but nothing has been done to fix the problems that the plaintiffs have encountered.

“Plaintiffs suffered an ascertainable loss as a result of Defendant’s omissions and/or misrepresentations associated with the cancellation policy and its purported ‘service’ fees,” the GetARoom.com class action lawsuit states.

Just went through a similar situation as everyone else. Boomed with Hilton in Hershey. Turns out it was through them. Called hotel to cancel reservation only to learn it was booked through GETAROOM.COM. worked with hotel and threatened getaroom with taking complaint to social media. Was refunded our money..

  2. Kristen Young-Lee says:

Scammed as well. Thought I was on Hilton’s website, I was in the process of entering my credit card information when I realized the countdown timer wasn’t normally on Hilton’s site. I closed out of the website before hitting submit, but my card was charged anyway. Customer service refuses to refund my money or cancel the reservation.

    Reservation Cancellation #R3384425326 Case 02334342:

I made and cancelled my reservation within a few minutes of realizing I was not on the Wyndham Rewards site. Their reservation confirmation emphasized Free Cancellation but they want to charge me the full amount (no refund) of US$1822.33. That is not right!

    1. Laurel Turner says:

Same thing happened to me. I have a photo of the page on their website which says the reservation is refundable.

  4. Laurie Campbell says:

Getaroom tricked me into believing that I was booking with the actual Travelodge hotel and not a third party.
I accidentally booked with them on April 26, 2022. I immediately called the Travelodge hotel and made sure it was cancelled on their end. I then called Getaroom to get my full refund. The cancellation and FULL refund was confirmed with customer service on April 26, 2022 and I was told it would take 3-5 business days.
That time frame has come and gone and I have not heard a word from them. I have called their customer service three times since, and they hang up on me. Getaroom is a total scam and should not be allowed to operate.

They took about 2700$ from me!! Do not trust this company dont even go on their website. I never even got to the page to agree to the terms and conditions it just auto completed the transaction. I have been fighting this for months. This company needs to go out of business!!

  6. Erica Wise says:

Same scenario as stated above with a back dated cancellation date and site falsely misrepresented its self as freehand and overcharged room daily rate and added fees

  7. Ken Wise says:

I was a ripped off by over 250 dollars from this company

  8. Wendy Espinoza says:

Currently dealing with this, as of today. I’m shocked that a lawsuit happened so recently and they are still pulling these shady business tactics!

  9. Suzanne Hackett says:

I’m shocked and embarrassed that I fell victim to this company. Like so many others, thought I was booking through the hotel. Was told I had to cancel by Dec. 20th at 2pm for a full refund. I cancelled at 7:24 am on the 20th and was never refunded. I have spent literally hours trying to communicate my situation to this company and they simply refuse to refund me stating the “hotel did not authorize the refund”. I followed the cancellation policy that is in writing on the get-a-room reservation. This reservation was approximately 2000 dollars. I have read through the comments and I’m truly dumbfounded that getAroom is not deemed a scam business.

Had the exact same thing happen March 2022. They overcharged me $100, from a phone booking. Since it was not online, there was no way I could have agreed to the $100 “extra fee” by not reading their fine print; agent never told me about it on the phone. I triple checked that it was the total amount, including ANY fees and taxes; agent said they were “reservations with the Hyatt Hotel” – did not disclose that they were a 3rd party. This company should NOT be allowed to continue to be in “business”. SCAM.
