Pelvic mesh, or vaginal mesh implants, have been the focus of a series of large-scale lawsuits across the country for the last several years.
Tens of thousands of women are involved in pelvic mesh litigation against the manufacturers of these products.

$11M Pelvic Mesh Verdict Upheld
An $11 million award for a vaginal mesh lawsuit against Ethicon has been upheld in New Jersey.
Ethicon, a subsidiary of pharmaceutical and medical device giant Johnson & Johnson, was accused in the lawsuit of failing to adequately warn patients about its pelvic mesh device and its associated risks.
Though the company allegedly had knowledge of several serious risks linked with its vaginal mesh implant product, it concealed these risks and continued to aggressively market the device as if it were safe and effective.
The plaintiff, Linda G., accused Johnson & Johnson of using its consumers as “guinea pigs” to test the pelvic mesh device.
Vaginal Mesh Manufacturing Unit Shut Down
Endo International has announced that it plans to shut down a vaginal mesh implant manufacturing unit after settling a series of costly vaginal mesh lawsuits. Because of the great number of vaginal mesh lawsuits, Endo has reportedly spent approximately $2 billion on settlement money.
In response, the company attempted to sell Astora Woman’s Health. When that failed, the company decided to shut down the group to avoid further lawsuits.
Boston Scientific Reaches $34.5M Settlement
Boston Scientific Corp. has agreed to pay a $34.5 million settlement to a Texas couple over a pelvic mesh lawsuit. Boston Scientific had previously settled numerous other pelvic mesh lawsuits.

Ethicon’s consolidated multidistrict litigation has increased by 62 new pelvic mesh lawsuits, which were recently transferred into the pending litigation filed for pelvic mesh implant complications.
The majority of these lawsuits were originally filed in the Central District of California.
Bard Settles Pelvic Mesh Suits for $200M
Bard Medical agreed to settle pelvic mesh litigation for $200 million. The lawsuit involves about 3,000 cases claiming that the company’s pelvic mesh led to severe complications.
Though there are many plaintiffs involved in this litigation, the $200 million allows for each plaintiff to receive about $67,000. This resolves only about a third of the pending pelvic mesh lawsuits that Bard is currently facing.
Study Examines Pelvic Mesh Complications
Though the FDA has warned about complications linked with vaginal mesh implants used to treat pelvic organ prolapse (POP), more and more people continue to use pelvic mesh devices, according to a study.
