After allegedly suffering from serious injuries, a Florida woman decided to file a hernia mesh side effects lawsuit against the product’s manufacturers, Ethicon and Johnson & Johnson.
The plaintiff, Joanne Q., was implanted with a hernia mesh product to repair incisional hernias on May 30, 2014. The product, known as Physiomesh, was manufactured by pharmaceutical giants Ethicon and Johnson & Johnson.
Though the hernia mesh was designed to repair her incisional hernias, her condition allegedly worsened after she was implanted with the medical device.
She began suffering from a number of hernia mesh side effectsas a result of the device, including persistent abdominal pain, diminished bowel motility, and bowel obstruction.
Eventually, in July 2015, the plaintiff underwent surgery in an attempt to undo the damage of the hernia mesh. It took over two hours to remove the defective device during surgery, and even then, the surgeon could not remove all of the material that had caused these complications.
Since the original mesh implantation, the hernia mesh device had caused several serious adhesions to both the bowels and the abdominal wall, the lawsuit alleges.
Indeed, these side effects caused serious pain, suffering, and medical costs, and will continue to cause pain and complications for the rest of the patient’s life, the hernia mesh side effects lawsuit alleges.
According to the hernia mesh side effects lawsuit, had the patient been aware of the serious side effects associated with Physiomesh, the hernia mesh product, she would not have agreed to the initial implantation procedure and would have instead chosen a safer alternative.
