Zithromax Reaction KidsZithromax, also known as Z-Pak, is a powerful antibiotic medicine that is commonly used to treat ear infections, tonsillitis and other bacterial infections.

Because this medication provides faster relief for patients than most other courses of antibiotic drugs, it has gained rapidly in popularity in the U.S. medical industry.

Recent cases demonstrate, however, that Zithromax (azithromycin) products may present serious health risks to patients who are prescribed these medications.

Children are especially susceptible to a Zithromax reaction in kids known as Stevens Johnson Syndrome (SJS) that has been associated with the use of the drug.

Zithromax Reaction in Kids: Stevens Johnson Syndrome

For most patients, Zithromax offers a convenient and fast-acting alternative to older antibiotic formulations. Patients typically take one dose of Zithromax per day for three to five days.

It is considered a broad spectrum antibiotic medication and is used throughout the U.S. and around the world to combat pneumonia, sinusitis and many other bacterial infections.

Unfortunately, the use of this drug has been associated with a serious Zithromax reaction in kids. One of these Zithromax reactions is Stevens Johnson Syndrome.

Stevens Johnson Syndrome constitutes one of the most serious threats to the health of children treated with Zithromax. This severe allergic Zithromax reaction in kids can result in necrosis of skin tissue and ulcerations of the mouth, lips and throat.

Some cases of Stevens Johnson Syndrome develop into Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis, a dangerous condition that can prove fatal for its victims.

While a Zithromax reaction is not the only cause of Stevens Johnson Syndrome, the widespread popularity of this antibiotic has made it one of the most commonly cited triggers for the condition.

Zithromax was linked to Steven Johnson Syndrome in one study published in the National Center for Biotechnology Information.

In that study, two cases of azithromycin SJS were discussed, including a 62-year-old woman who took the antibiotic for an upper respiratory infection and developed SJS.

The other patient who developed SJS after using Zithromax in this study was a child.

Zithromax SJS Lawsuits

Several lawsuits have been filed alleging the antibiotic drug has led to a child developing the life-threatening condition, Stevens Johnson Syndrome.

One specific lawsuit, filed by a Florida mother in 2014, claims that her child was prescribed Zithromax and just two weeks later was hospitalized for Stevens Johnson Syndrome.

This particular Zithromax reaction lawsuit centers on allegations that Pfizer failed to warn patients about the possible side effect of the drug.

As the manufacturer of Zithromax, Pfizer is responsible for warning consumers regarding potential azithromycin problems and for representing it fairly to physicians and patients.

The pharmaceutical firm has already paid out millions in lawsuit settlements due to its false advertising of the Zithromax antibiotic.

Patients who have suffered a Zithromax reaction such as Stevens Johnson Syndrome can often benefit from a consultation with a class action lawsuit attorney to ensure that their claims are considered in any litigation proceeding or possible settlement arrangements.
