Janssen Research & Development LLC faces a woman’s recent Xarelto uncontrolled bleeding lawsuit alleging severe internal bleeding side effects she claims to have suffered as a direct result of her ingestion of the anticoagulant medication.
Plaintiff Maureen N. filed the Xarelto uncontrolled bleeding lawsuit in Louisiana federal court. The lawsuit was filed joining a growing multidistrict litigation (MDL) against the company.
According to the Xarelto uncontrolled bleeding lawsuit, the plaintiff took Xarelto from approximately May 31, 2014 through May 28, 2016. She says she took Xarelto to reduce risks of stroke and systemic embolism. She was also prescribed the medication to treat deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism, the Xarelto uncontrolled bleeding lawsuit states.
Maureen alleges that because of her use of Xarelto, however, she suffered injuries including but not limited to hospital, medical, and surgical expenses, physical pain and suffering, and loss of consortium.
The Xarelto uncontrolled bleeding lawsuit was filed on multiple counts including strict liability, manufacturing defect, design defect, failure to warn, negligence, breach of express warranty, breach of implied warranty, negligent misrepresentation, fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, violation of consumer protection laws and consumer fraud laws, loss of consortium, wrongful death, and survival action.
Maureen demands a trial by jury.
Xarelto Uncontrolled Bleeding Side Effects
Maureen’s claim is filed as part of a large MDL centered on allegations that Xarelto’s manufacturers allegedly misrepresented the drug’s safety and insufficiently warned of Xarelto uncontrolled bleeding as a side effect.
Plaintiffs like Maureen claim that the drug also does not have a reversal agent, constituting a design defect. Additionally, allege the lawsuits in the MDL, in comparison to another anticoagulant medication, warfarin, Xarelto does not in fact provide increased patient benefits.
Xarelto was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 2011. The drug helps prevent conditions such as pulmonary embolism (PE), deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and blood clots from occurring.
Deep vein thrombosis is the condition where a blood clot forms in the body’s lower extremities, usually the legs. A pulmonary embolism occurs when one or more arteries in the lungs becomes blocked by a blood clot. Some symptoms of a DVT include swelling, pain, and tenderness. Symptoms of a PE include coughing, shortness of breath, and chest pain.
However, there have been a wide range of adverse side effects and complications associated with Xarelto. Some of these side effects include the following:
• Retinal hemorrhages
• Abdominal hemorrhages
• Intracranial hemorrhages
• Adrenal bleeding
• Excessive blood loss
• Epidural hematoma
• Stroke
• Wound infection and complication
• Death
A Xarelto uncontrolled bleeding lawsuit can help assist and provide compensation to injured users who suffered damages such as pain and suffering or financial losses such as through lost wages and medical bills. Those eligible for legal action may include any person who suffered stroke, death, or serious uncontrolled bleeding side effects from their use of Xarelto.
The Xarelto Uncontrolled Bleeding Lawsuit is Case No. 2:18-cv-01873-EEF-MBN, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. The Xarelto MDL is In re: Xarelto (Rivaroxaban) Products Liability Litigation, MDL No. 2592, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.
