A wrongful death lawsuit was filed after a 17-year-old girl was killed when a cement barrier fell from a tractor-trailer. The cement barrier fell atop of the decedent’s car and killed her. The wrongful death lawsuit was filed by her family who is seeking damages for wrongful death and more.
The Florida resident was driving her BMW when she was hit by a tractor-trailer that was coming from a construction site. According to the wrongful death lawsuit, the tractor-trailer drove across one or more highway lanes which led to the accident. There was construction happening in the area on the highway by the accident, and there were lanes previously blocked off primarily so that construction vehicles could maneuver safely on the highway. The wrongful death lawsuit alleges that there were no blocked off lanes at the time of the accident.
The decedent’s mother issued a statement on the wrongful death lawsuit filing, stating, “I owe this to her for justice. She was a good kid. She was full of dreams and she wanted to go to [University of Miami]. She got a scholarship. She did everything right. She did everything right and this was not supposed to happen to her.”
Two other individuals were injured by the accident. A 29-year-old man was killed when he hid the side of the tractor-trailer and drove under the vehicle causing the roof of his car to tear and for his vehicle to crash. With him was a 25-year-old woman who survived but suffered from severe injuries.
The wrongful death lawsuit was filed against Ranger Construction.
