Hip replacement failureBiomet Inc. is facing a new product liability claim, after a woman reportedly underwent revision surgery after metal hip implant failure.

The metal hip implant lawsuit alleges the woman had suffered numerous complications soon after the implementation of the device, and had required revision surgery after metal hip implant failure.

Illinois plaintiff Pamela H. is filing legal action against Biomet Inc., after allegedly facing implant complications from the Magnum metal on metal hip implant.

Even though she had to undergo revision surgery after hip implant failure, Pamela claims had been led to believe the Magnum hip device was an ideal choice for her.

Like most metal on metal hip implants, the Magnum hip device was advertised to be superior to other hip implants as more durable and customizable.

Given these marketed advantages, Pamela underwent right hip replacement surgery on Jan. 21, 2008 and had initially responded well to it. In fact, Pamela underwent left hip replacement surgery a year later getting the same metal hip implant.

However soon after this procedure, Pamela had reportedly suffered from debilitating pain, loss of motion, discomfort, soreness, and other complications.

Eventually Pamela had to undergo revision surgery after metal hip implant failure on her left hip on Feb. 05, 2015, and a couple months later on her right hip.

Pamela filed legal action soon after her revision surgeries after learning of the complications associated with metal on metal hip implants.

Revision Surgery After Metal Hip Implant Failure

Metal on metal hip implants have been advertised as overtly superior to their plastic or ceramic counterparts, as companies marketed them as more durable and longer lasting.

In addition, a number of metal hip implant manufacturing companies advertise a number of their models to be customizable to patients.

This makes them very popular amongst younger patients, who are more likely to exercise or be more physically active. However patients who opt for the all metal hip implants have reported serious complications, due to the specific components of the device.

The ball and socket joint of the metal hip implants erode metal ions into the blood when they interact causing to a number of other side effects including corrosion, blood metal poisoning, infection, device failure, debilitating pain, and complete device failure.

These side effects have caused a number of patients to undergo revision surgery after metal hip implant failure.

Many of these patients have alleged these manufacturing companies knew of these complications, but failed to notify the public and medical community.

Pamela is filing her metal hip implant lawsuit in a multidistrict litigation (MDL), where it will stand alongside other claims alleging similar injuries.

The Revision Surgery After Metal Hip Implant Failure Lawsuit is Case No. 3:16-cv-00483, in the U.S. District Court of Northern Indiana, Southern Bend Division.
