A woman has filed a Xarelto internal bleeding lawsuit against the drug’s manufacturers, Johnson & Johnson and its subsidiary, Janssen Research & Development, after she allegedly suffered serious internal bleeding side effects.
Plaintiff Annabelle W. is filing the Xarelto internal bleeding lawsuit in Louisiana federal court, joining other plaintiffs in an increasing multidistrict litigation (MDL) who allege the drug causes internal bleeding side effects, among other serious complications.
Annabelle, a resident of Oregon, says she began taking Xarelto in July 2014 and suffered an internal bleeding injury that month.
Annabelle filed the Xarelto internal bleeding lawsuit on Dec. 7th, 2017, and demands a trial by jury.
The Xarelto internal bleeding lawsuit is filed on multiple counts including strict liability, manufacturing defect, design defect, failure to warn, negligence, breach of express warranty, breach of implied warranty, negligent misrepresentation, fraud, and violation of consumer protection laws.
Xarelto Internal Bleeding Lawsuit Joins MDL
Annabelle’s claim is filed as part of a large multidistrict litigation, or MDL, centered on allegations that Xarelto caused patients to suffer serious internal bleeding injuries more dangerous than what they were led to expect.
The Xarelto lawsuits filed against the companies accuse them of being negligent in warning consumers of adverse Xarelto side effects and possible risks of injury. They point out that although Xarelto was promoted and advertised as a superior anticoagulant medication, there is no reversal agent for Xarelto internal bleeding complications.
Victims having suffered from Xarelto internal bleeding injuries or other serious complications allege that Xarelto’s manufacturers have misrepresented the safety of the drug and inadequately warned patients of its bleeding risks.
Overview: Xarelto
Approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2011, Xarelto (rivaroxaban) is a commonly prescribed blood thinner indicated to reduce the risks of deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, strokes, and blood clots.
Xarelto is also prescribed to patients diagnosed with abnormal heart rhythm, also known as atrial fibrillation, to decrease their risks of developing a stroked caused by a blood clot.
Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is the formation of a blood clot in a deep vein, usually in the legs, and it can be life-threatening. A pulmonary embolism (PE) is a condition in which one or more arteries in the lungs becomes blocked by a blood clot. PE occurs when a clot that forms elsewhere in the body circulates to the lungs and prevents blood flow.
While symptoms of a DVT includes swelling, pain, and tenderness, often in the legs, symptoms of PE include shortness of breath, chest pain and cough.
Adverse effects patients have reported when taking Xarelto include stroke, adrenal bleeding, epidural hematoma, retinal hemorrhages, wound infection and complication, intracranial hemorrhages and death.
The Xarelto Internal Bleeding Lawsuit is Case No. 2:17-cv-15299, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. The Xarelto MDL is In re: Xarelto (Rivaroxaban) Products Liability Litigation, MDL No. 2592, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.
