An Arizona woman recently filed a lawsuit against Janssen Pharmaceuticals, alleging she suffered from a severe Xarelto side effect after using the blood thinner for only a few days: major internal bleeding.
The plaintiff, Barbara C., says she began taking Xarelto on Aug. 24, 2016. Barely a week later, on Sept. 2, 2016, Barbara claims she suffered from severe internal bleeding, landing her in the hospital and endangering her life.
According to the blood thinner lawsuit, this Xarelto side effect was something that Janssen was aware of as a serious risk, but failed to adequately warn about. Instead, the manufacturer “ignored the association between the use of Xarelto and the risk of developing life-threatening bleeding.”
Xarelto Bleeding Lawsuit
Barbara’s Xarelto side effect lawsuit claims she suffered from life-threatening bleeding, physical pain and mental anguish, and substantial medical expenses.
Barbara filed her Xarelto side effect lawsuit on Aug. 9, 2018, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. The lawsuit was filed on multiple counts, including strict liability, manufacturing defect, design defect, failure to warn, negligence, breach of express and implied warranties, fraud, and several others.
If you or someone you love has suffered from a major Xarelto side effect like bleeding, you may be able to pursue litigation.
Background of Xarelto
Xarelto (also known by its generic name, rivaroxaban) is a relatively new blood thinning drug. Xarelto is manufactured and sold by Janssen Pharmaceuticals, a prominent subsidiary of pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson. Since it was first introduced to the market, Xarelto has become increasingly popular.
Xarelto is prescribed to treat blood clots and conditions related to clotting. Blood clots can be very dangerous, and in some cases can be fatal, which makes the use of new blood thinner drugs like Xarelto so widespread.
However, a growing number of lawsuits are being filed over the risk of bleeding as a Xarelto, as well as related issues like intracranial hemorrhage. Unfortunately, some have even had to file a Xarelto wrongful death lawsuit after the death of a loved one.
According to such lawsuits, Janssen knew about the Xarelto side effect risks, including excessive bleeding problems, yet failed to adequately warn both consumers and the medical community, placing patients at serious risk.
Filing a Xarelto Side Effect Lawsuit
Filing a Xarelto side effect lawsuit cannot take away the pain and suffering caused by these injuries, nor can it bring a loved one back to life. However, a Xarelto lawsuit can at least help to compensate for the financial expenses often incurred by medical bills and lost wages.
If you or someone you love has experienced severe side effects like Xarelto bleeding, or even died from their usage of Xarelto, you may be able to file a Xarelto lawsuit.
The Xarelto Side Effect Lawsuit is Case No. 2:18-cv-07534-EEF-MBN, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.
